Yesterday, the NBA officially reinstated Draymond Green back into the roster after serving a 12-game suspension. However, in a recent episode of the Draymond Green Show, the Warriors’ veteran suggested that he could have retired. But in the end, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver talked him out of making such a rash decision.

In an emotional conversation, Green said, “I told him, ‘Adam this is too much for me. … This is too much. It’s all becoming too much for me — and I’m going to retire.’ And Adam said, ‘You’re making a very rash decision and I won’t let you do that.’” Green further added by saying, “We had a long, great conversation — very helpful to me. Very thankful to play in a league with a commissioner like Adam who’s more about helping you than hurting you; helping you than punishing you. He’s more about the players.”

After a month-long hiatus from the NBA, Draymond is on the cusp of making his return. Draymond’s return could prove to be the catalyst that could rejuvenate a fumbling Warriors’ side. In his absence, the Warriors have accrued a record of seven wins and six losses. They have severely missed Draymond and the skills that he brings to the roster. Draymond’s return comes just at the right time, as the Warriors face some quality opponents in their upcoming matches. In a span of six days, the Warriors face the likes of the Pelicans, Bulls, Bucks, and the Grizzlies. Let’s hope that Draymond plays with a clear mind, after undergoing a month of therapy and counseling.

Can Draymond’s return spur on the Warriors?

This season, the Golden State Warriors have been uncharacteristically poor. Despite the best efforts of Stephen Curry, the Warriors languish outside of even a Play-In spot. Currently, they occupy the 11th spot in the Western Conference standings, having won 17 games and losing another 19 games. Furthermore, key players like Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins have witnessed a significant slump in their performances and production.

In such an environment, the comeback of their emotional leader has the potential to uplift the spirits of the players. Draymond’s influence extends beyond emotions. In his absence, the Warriors lacked their defensive linchpin. Apart from this, the Warriors also missed his playmaking abilities, too. The Warriors’ fans would hope that Green’s return could spur on the Warriors and lead them to another NBA final.
