Despite leading the league with 33.4 points this season, Luka Doncic’s abilities are being doubted. The voices of naysayers are not from netizens but from his own locker room. He was not the only one to face the playful jab as teammate Jake LaRavia put the team on notice.

During the post-match media interaction, LaRavia was not impressed with Jaxson Hayes’s latest between-leg dunk shot. “He didn’t get that high, but it was alright,” he said.” Yeah, I’ll do a proper one,” and playfully challenged the locker room. While LaRavia was having banter with Hayes, Luka Doncic was right there to prove his point.

Luka tried convincing his teammate, “I did it when I was a teen, I have a video!” Since he didn’t watch Doncic’s dunk, LaRavia refused to believe in the Slovenian. “The only player that does it in the league is Obi Toppin.” Fortunately, there is proof that the Lakers’ superstar can actually bank on his athletic abilities.

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin shared the proof with the world, who were not believing in Luka Doncic. It was a YouTube short video, uploaded 2 years ago, with the caption, “Luka Doncic could dunk between the legs at age 13 🤯.” Teen Luka’s head was almost near the rim when he performed that dunk. The reason why LaRavia didn’t believe in his teammate was due to recent bias.

Last time the Lakers’ star dunked was back in November when he gathered the ball and exploded up to the rim for a monstrous two-handed jam over Hornets forward Moussa Diabate. According to Basketball Reference, the dunk marked Doncic’s third in the past two seasons. Even at that time, his teammates didn’t fail to troll the Slovenian.

“U can dunk?” Lakers forward Jake LaRavia wrote, while forward Jarred Vanderbilt called the photo “AI.” Lakers guard Austin Reaves also commented, acknowledging the dunk, joking that it was Doncic’s “first dunk of the year.” The playful banter on social media proved that the team atmosphere behind the scenes is impeccable. Even though they might joke at his dunking ability, Docic continues to set the tone for the Lakers.

Luka Doncic notches new history for franchise

What can be done that legends like Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, or Kobe Bryant didn’t accomplish? Even LeBron James never cracked this record in the eight years he spent in Los Angeles. Interestingly, Luka Doncic just did it before he was in LA for an entire year.

He led the Lakers to a 118-129 win with a 46-point outing; the talking point was his moment where he made franchise history

Luka Doncic took only 65 games to reach 2,000 points in Purple & Gold. That’s the fastest anyone in a Lakers uniform has reached. The last one to do that within one season was George Mikan, who did it in 72 games when it was still the Minneapolis Lakers. Doncic made this possible on the back of him averaging 33.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per contest while shooting 46.7% from the field and 33.4% from three-point range in 36 games heading into tonight’s game.

While the fun banter continues behind the scenes, Luka continues to lead the franchise.
