The explosive performance from Anthony Edwards against the Denver Nuggets has taken NBA analysts and fans by storm. His 43-point performance led the Minnesota Timberwolves to victory against Jokic and Co.’s elite offense. However, NBA Champion Kendrick Perkins is not just weighing the Wolves’ guard on the scale with Jokic. He pointed out the bigger picture, stating the modern NBA is full of European bigwigs like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Luka Doncic, among others.

Former Celtics player Perkins appeared on the post-match analysis at ESPN and made some big claims after the Wolves game. In his praise for Anthony Edwards, he said, ” We’re in the era right now where the Europeans were looking like they were taking over the game of basketball, and Anthony Edwards stepped up to the play and said, ‘Hold up one second.. we’re still here!’” Well, Perkins seems to be nostalgic about the era of America-dominated basketball, including players like Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, and other legends.

The international domination in the NBA has been quite for some time now. Even former Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson pointed out that international players are stepping ahead of American players because of a lack of practice. “Some teams [today] don’t practice at all, ” Jackson responded when he was asked if teams put in the same effort as they used to do in his era.

Can Anthony Edwards Become the Pioneer of American Domination in the NBA?

With the performance that Anthony Edwards is delivering at the Minnesota Timberwolves, he is getting closer to the GOAT status. The excellence that he showed in Game 1 against the Nuggets appeared on the stats as well. The Wolves guard has joined Kobe Bryant (2001) in the league of the only players with consecutive 40-point games at age 22 or younger in NBA postseason history. However, it is only the record that matched Edwards next to Kobe Bryant. The mid-range Fadeaway jumper that the 22-year-old pulled out in the final minutes of the game was similar to Kobe’s mid-post fadeaway style move.

Legends like Michael Jordan were also left in awe of the Edwards’ score streak, according to NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith. While appearing on the ESPN show “First Take,” Smith revealed how Jordan had all praise for Wolves’ no. 1 pick when he called him after Game 1 of the Nuggets vs. Timberwolves showdown. Besides all of it, the Wolves guard has a resemblance with Jordan in fierce competitiveness and athleticism.
