“One area the team is focused on is upgrading the wing, where it needs more two-way talent. A player like Miami’s Andrew Wiggins, whom the Lakers weren’t interested in earlier this summer, is now a more desirable player” wrote ‘The Athletic’s Dan Woike in a recent report. As ‘Heat Nation’ reporter Jesse Cinquini wrote, Wiggins “is maybe the best player the Heat acquired as part of the blockbuster trade that dealt star forward Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors”. Despite this, with the Lakers reportedly set to feel more comfortable after securing a sizable wing contract to assist Luka Doncic and co, Wiggins has emerged as a top potential candidate. However, from what a recent social media user tells us, he has already become a part of the team!

According to a recent post by ‘NBACentel’, the Miami Heat are trading Andrew Wiggins to the Los Angeles Lakers! The post was also tagged (Via @ChrisBHayne) to provide the appearance of more ‘authenticity’ to the story.

Fortunately, if any Andrew Wiggins fans panicked after seeing this news, they don’t need to. After all, ‘NBACentel’ is a well-known parody account of ‘NBACentral’, and itself boasts around 710,300 followers. Amongst a few of the most recent posts the page had put out before the Andrew Wiggins ‘news’ was an image of WNBA star Skylar Diggins showing up to the game “with bags of c——”,  and claiming that Draymond Green once said that “I don’t shower after games when Bron guards me. It’s different going up against him”.

Therefore, Andrew Wiggins, for now, continues to remain with the Miami Heat. With the off-season still going on, the Miami Heat can still manage to strike a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. That is, if they can convince the Purple and Gold to part ways with some major players.

Jovan Buha claims the Heat earlier wanted Dalton Knecht, Rui Hachimura for Andrew Wiggins

A few weeks ago, Jovan Buha had reported, and NBACentral (not ‘NBACentel’), had reiterated that the Miami Heat are seeking a first-round pick, Dalton Knecht, and Rui Hachimura from the Lakers in trade talks centered around Andrew Wiggins. The Heat player is reportedly set to make around $28 million next season. On top of that, he has a player option worth $30 million for the 2026-27 season. The Lakers already have a $213.19 million salary cap. Therefore, to avoid any further issues with the luxury tax and apron limits, the team needs to cut ties with some existing stars.

According to ‘YardBreaker’s Fran Leiva, Wiggins was no longer asked to be “the guy” on the team. This reportedly makes him a good fit with the Los Angeles Lakers, since ‘a dependable two-way forward’ like him could be used amidst the Purple and Gold’s ‘strong but uneven’ offense. Amidst reports of Luka Doncic and LeBron James demanding double-teams, Wiggins would get to shoot better as compared to before, and even record above the 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists he averaged in 60 games during the 2024-25 NBA season.

What’s your perspective on:

Could Andrew Wiggins be the missing piece for the Lakers' championship puzzle, or just another gamble?

Have an interesting take?

To make that offense more ‘even’, however, Dalton Knecht would reportedly be among the top candidates considered for a trade. After all, a previous attempt was made to send the player to the Charlotte Hornets, but the same faltered. However, as Jovan Buha reported,  “Summer League has not helped Knecht’s stock, and I don’t think at this point he is valued as a first-round pick, in terms of an asset valuation”. The Heat would need more, which is where Rui Hachimura and the first-round pick would come in.
