The last few social media updates of Klay Thompson made one thing very clear: the former Golden State Warriors star is in a great headspace. Not so long ago, the ace shooter had one of the most frustrating slumps in his career. He further followed it with a heart-breaking exit from the Dubs fold after an 11-season-long stint. However, the 34-year-old seemed to have come to terms with the departure, as jokingly shared a story about facing the Dubs in the next season. In the meantime, he set his agenda straight with an upcoming soccer dream.

Except for die-hard fans, it would be hard for others to believe China Klay’s connection with soccer. Apart from shooting the ball from downtown, he could also strike the ball past the goalkeeper. Moreover, the star seemed more determined to win a soccer trophy. In his latest IG story, Thompson shared a video compilation of him playing soccer in an indoor stadium. The video also included the star, firing in a few goals for his side.

Along with the story, Klay Thompson also had a message for his teammates. He tagged all of his teammates and wrote, “Fellas, it’s about time we run the Darryl Cup back,” with a ball and trophy emoji. He seemed to be having a good time with his soccer teammates.

The video also featured the good old celebrations from the star that he usually does after splashing a bucket.

The Dubs may not witness Thompson’s celebrations again in the Warriors threads anymore, as he joined hands with the Dallas Mavericks in the off-season. Importantly, the 5x NBA All-Star’s chance at winning the 5th ring has increased drastically after the trade. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving led their team to the NBA Finals and unfortunately couldn’t win the ring. However, with the addition of a star shooter, they can have another crack at the ring in the upcoming season.

Klay Thompson and his soccer love

This isn’t the first time when Klay Thompson openly spoke about soccer. In fact, he even credited the game for helping the Dubs dominate the league in recent times. Following the Dubs 2021-22 title run, he said, “I give credit to Steve [Kerr], he came in and he had a vision just to keep that thing hot. He gave us the perfect example of FC Barcelona. They call it tiki-taka.”

After the inclusion of Steve Kerr into the Warriors fold, the 58-year-old changed the dynamics of the game. The star coach incorporated the idea of making the extra pass and getting those open buckets. Importantly, the game shifted from being a more physically dominated game to a shooting game.

The sharpshooter also added, “It’s just kick it to the open man and with us give it to the open man, keep it moving and it just plays to me and Steph’s [Curry] strengths so much, “The ‘Tiki-Taka’ style of soccer was brought into the FC Barcelona by the former head coach Pep Guardiola. This heavily inspired Kerr and ultimately changed the fortune of the Warriors basketball.

Will Klay Thompson take the ‘Tiki-Taka’ style to the Mavs? Let us know in the comments below.
