Basketball has become one of the most popular sports in the world. In fact, basketball is the second most played sport in the world after football. The NBA has become a massive television enterprise. The league now aims at tripling its media rights fees from $2.6 billion in the current deal to upwards of $7 to $8 billion annually.

This has led to multi-million dollar contracts being handed out to NBA stars, as they have become one of the best-paid pro athletes in the world. Many players look to invest their wealth in multiple industries in order to secure their future.

Trae Young Invests in Atlanta Bouncers

Last season, Trae Young signed a five-year contract worth $215 million dollars. And the Oklahoma native decided to follow Kevin Durant and invest some of that money into the Atlanta Bouncers. The Atlanta Bouncers play in Major League Pickleball. MLP began its first season in 2021 and since then has seen a continuous growth in terms of viewership and valuation. Some franchises in the league are already valued at $10 million dollars. The Bouncers sit 14th on the table with twenty points.

Trae Young opened up about the trials and tribulations of being an owner on his “From the Point” podcast. He said, “It’s crazy. I mean, I see how Tony Ressler be feeling like. I feel like Tony Ressler. I was really invested, I wanted to win. We didn’t do too well. But I was so excited to meet our players. I am just excited to be a part of it. We going to be great in the future”. 

Tony Ressler is an American billionaire businessman. He co-founded the private equity firms Apollo Global Management in 1990 and Ares Management in 1997. He became the majority owner of the Hawks in 2015 when a group led by Ressler paid $250 million dollars for a 93% stake in the franchise.

Trae Young’s other Investments and Endorsements

Due to his All-Star caliber, Trae has become one of the most marketable young NBA players. Trae has bagged sponsorship deals with Bodyarmor, NBA2K, Tissot, and eBay. Trae signed a multi-year deal with German sportswear manufacturer Adidas in 2018. Young would net $1.8 million dollars from his deal with Adidas.

Trae also diversified his wealth by investing in companies like Hyperice, Overtime, and StarStock. Hyperice could raise $47.8 million dollars, whereas StarStock raised another $8 million dollars.
