The Houston Rockets took on the mighty Milwaukee Bucks on a Sunday night game, leading to an intense match-up. The game had several pauses in between, owing to some physical plays from both sides. However, a play from the Rockets forward Dillon Brooks made the referees spend a little more time reviewing it. But, it certainly didn’t amuse his teammate, Fred VanVleet as he called out the refs for letting a Bucks player get away with a similar play.

The Rockets were behind an intense catching-up game in the third quarter, as the Bucks managed to produce a sizeable lead in the first half. Whenever the Rockets try to compete with the 11-point lead, the Bucks immediately replied with buckets. Thanks to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. But, the visiting side wasn’t letting go off easily, as they created room for themselves to score. During one such play, the Dillon Brooks got held up.

Dillon Brooks has been the find of the season, along with Alperen Sengun. The ex-Grizzlies star has forced some of the great plays this season to turn things around for the Rockets. Most recently, he stunned the Memphis crowd with a dagger game-winning three-pointer. These things have cemented a crucial spot in the Rockets’ lineup.

At the same time, he has a reputation for engaging in physical altercations with his opponents, especially from the previous season. It could massively play a role when it came down to an official review of a doubtful physical play.

In the third quarter, Brooks ran up the lane for a lay-up, but in the process, he elbowed Bucks’ Pat Connaughton. Immediately, the refs called for an official review, as Connaughton was on the floor with a red nose. While the review took longer than usual, Fred VanVleet stepped in to remind the refs of their previous call, pointing to a swelling on his face. Earlier in the game, during a play, the Bucks giant Brook Lopez also elbowed VanVleet, leaving him on the ground.

After a long pause in the game, the refs called it an offensive foul and returned the possession of the ball to the Bucks.

The call could have gone either way, as they could have even called a flagrant foul 1, considering his reputation. Let’s dig deeper into Brooks’ reputation.

The Grizzlies took on the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs. Brooks was all over LeBron James, trying to get under his skin. He once even hit the 4x NBA Champion on the groin during the series. However, at the end of the day, the team failed to qualify for the next round.

While it may seem like a petty ejection, once he took a swipe at Dubs’ Gary Payton II, and ended up fracturing his arm. A flagrant 2 foul was called on him and the refs ejected him immediately in the 2022 playoffs.

With the series of violent physical plays under his name, there are a lot of possibilities for the refs to rethink before giving a call.
