Devonte’ Graham, the 28-year-old Spurs player, had already established himself during his collegiate years. He was a star player for the University of Kansas. However, as the 2018 draft approached, he was selected in the second round of the draft because of concerns about his physical traits, such as size and athleticism.

The Atlanta Hawks finally called out his name as the 34th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks. While it was a moment of success for Graham, his fate was about to transform dramatically. And he can thank Jordan’s Hornets for it.

During a recent episode of ‘Run Your Race,’ he sat down to reveal an anecdote from his draft night.

He revealed how he threw an NBA draft party at a hotel following his victory against the Duke in an elite eight. He threw the party, “Just to be a little disrespectful”. And him getting selected by Hawks hyped all the attendees. Mid-celebration, one of his friends comes up to him with a life-changing surprise.

Devonte’ revealed, ” One of my homies like, ‘Hey yo!’, like 10 minutes later. ‘It say you’re going to Charlotte”. A surprise that no one saw coming. His agent didn’t inform him about the trade, leaving him all the more confused.

Devonte’ played with the Hornets for three years, where he had a heated start. Then, the Pelicans acquired Graham in a sign-and-trade with Charlotte during the 2021 offseason. Grahams then went to the San Antonio Spurs along with four-second draft picks from the New Orleans Pelicans in February 2023.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old recently found himself in trouble.

Per a statement by the NBA, Graham received a two-game suspension without pay following his guilty plea to driving while intoxicated. Authorities arrested Graham for speeding in North Carolina in July 2022, resulting in his suspension.

According to court documents, he was driving at a speed of 63 miles per hour in a zone with a speed limit of 40 miles per hour. And this was all within the city limits of Raleigh, North Carolina. Graham’s blood alcohol level was also 11, which was more than the state’s legal limit of.08. As a result, he will serve 12 months on unsupervised probation.
