Norman Powell was the guest on the latest episode of Podcast P with Paul George. The veteran shooting guard discussed the various roles he has played over the years. This season marks his 8th in the league. However, at the beginning of the conversation, the co-hosts asked the 30-year-old about an old clip that once surfaced with him and comedian Kevin Hart and went quite viral.

In the clip, the comedian attempts to play 1 on 1 with Powell, who apart from being a professional athlete also stands a foot taller than Hart at 6’4. The hilarious videos shows the UCLA alum swatting every attempt of Kevin Hart trying to score a bucket.

The incident sparked laughter in the group, You know Kevin is super animated,” remarked Paul George. Powell simply laughs, recalling the incident, and says “Yeah, he was.” The conversation then forays into the shooting’s guard’s rookie year tracing his development as a player in the NBA.

Despite “tasting” NBA success in his rookie year with the Toronto Raptors in 2015, they sent Powell to the G league. Owing to that Paul George asks him, “Describe that level of rollercoaster of emotions involved with what you went through that rookie season.” “The summer league was great for me because, like I said when I got drafted, it was like I’m showing everybody, you know? So to have that accolade, being the only rookie in that class to make the first team, was really good,” said the 30-year-old.

He further added, “But, like I said, DeMar kind of let me know that this is going to be a team where I’ve got to earn my stripes. But when they sent me down to the G-League, I was hot, yeah, I was so mad.”

However, Powell’s experience in Toronto and now the Clippers made him a bold claim about  Kawhi Leonard.

Powell’s Bold Claim about Kawhi Leonard

Powell told George that everything took a different turn for the Raptors when Leonard arrived in Toronto in 2018 through the trade involving DeMar DeRozan. “It’s like ‘Bron, or Jordan, or Kobe on the court, just the way that he’s able to read the game and the stillness he has when he plays,” said Powell.

In 2019, Leonard secured his second Finals MVP accolade by guiding the Raptors to a championship. Now, Powell and the Clippers aspire to see him replicate this success in Los Angeles. Similar to the Raptors, the Clippers had never clinched an NBA championship before Leonard’s arrival.
