The summer began with uncertainty surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo and his future in Milwaukee. In July, IShowSpeed asked the two-time MVP directly if he expects to remain with the Bucks for the 2025-26 season. He answered in pure diplomatic fashion. “Probably. Probably, we’ll see, probably, I love Milwaukee.” While that might sound like assurance to some, others would focus on the door left open. Eventually, it seems Giannis is set to join the Bucks camp, but the latest incident with owner Wes Edens doesn’t help the rumour mill.

Edens recently spoke about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future, saying, “I had a great conversation with Giannis in June, and he made it clear that he is committed to Milwaukee and he likes having his family here.” But Giannis quickly pushed back, claiming he couldn’t recall such a meeting. Well, that was embarrassing for Edens, especially considering Giannis’ future at the franchise is in doubt. However, he did clarify his stance, “I believe in my teammates, I believe in the people around me, and I believe in the moves the organization makes.”

The Bucks continue trying to build a championship-level roster with Giannis as the Sun of the team. “This team is built to maximize Giannis, but also Giannis can maximize this team,” GM Jon Horst said. Giannis has made his stance on his Bucks future pretty clear. “As long as we are in for a championship, as long as nobody’s comfortable, as long as everybody’s sacrificing the same amount of time and sweat and blood that I’ve sacrificed for this city to win a championship, we are all good.” He said in a recent appearance on the “48 Minutes” podcast.
However, their 2026 quest has already started on a bad note. They have lost Damian Lillard to an Achilles tear. The Bucks decided to waive and stretch the remainder of his contract to continue to pursue moves to keep the Bucks in contention. The rest of the outgoing group included Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez, and Pat Connaughton. Doc Rivers’ group reloaded on the perimeter with guards Cole Anthony and Gary Harris and added wing Amir Coffey on a camp look. The headline move, though, was landing Myles Turner, a splash that drew immediate praise from Giannis.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Fired Up to Run With Myles Turner
The Bucks landed one of the best in 2025 free agency. Myles Turner was a Pacer for the last decade and reportedly wanted to stay with the 2025 finalists, but the Bucks outbid them with a reported four-year, $107 million deal. The Pacers’ offer “never truly exceeded the three-year, $60 million range,” according to Jake Fischer. Turner arrives in Milwaukee with major hype, and Giannis has just added to it.
“He’s one of the bigs that we can fit so well together. He’s one of the best bigs in the league… I’m very excited for him. I think that was an incredible move.” Gianiss said, “I know the fans are excited, but I think me and Myles are more excited than anybody.”
Turner seems to be a major upgrade on Brook Lopez, who limited their options on the court. The 37-year-old was moving away from being an asset. The Bucks now want to be younger, faster, while reducing liability on the defensive end, and Turner checks all of those boxes. After a decade in Indiana as the Pacers’ all-time shot-block king, Turner exits with a 15.6/6.5/1.5 line with 2.0 swats on a Finals team, a proven rim anchor with playoff chops.

By the end of last season, Doc played either Giannis Antetokounmpo or Bobby Portis at center to try to allow the team to play faster, but Turner will dissolve that need. Turner is also ramping up in his perimeter shooting, as he made 2.2 3-pointers per game on a career-best 39.6% something the most accurate outside shooting team from 2024-25 might appreciate, especially after losing Lillard, their best three-point shooter.
