The Golden State Warriors made a series of moves after addressing the Jonathan Kuminga contract situation. Among the notable arrivals were Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton; however, the acquisition that resonated most with Dubs Nation was Seth Curry. At 35 years old, the sharpshooting guard was anticipated to finally have the opportunity to play alongside his older brother, Steph, in San Francisco. Unfortunately, financial constraints faced by the Warriors may have impacted the possibility of a Curry brothers reunion.

NBA Insider Chris Haynes recently reported that the Warriors have waived Seth Curry. He posted on X, “The Golden State Warriors have parted ways with guard Seth Curry.” This means that only one Curry will be on the opening night roster. This news is disappointing for the Curry family, as they did not even have the chance to see both Seth and Steph play together on the court, since the 11-year veteran did not make an appearance for the team during the preseason.

Nonetheless, while Seth Curry couldn’t make an impression during the preseason, that wasn’t why the Dubs waived him. On the contrary, according to another Insider, Marc Stein, this might just be a comma in Seth’s Warriors career, rather than a full stop, due to them only having around $2 million cap space under the second apron and being hard capped by it. “The Warriors, as expected, have waived Seth Curry with the intention of re-signing next month when they have sufficient financial flexibility to bring him back,” Stein tweeted.
The Insider pointed out that due to being hard hit by the salary cap, the Dubs have made the decision to waive Seth Curry, as they cannot afford a veteran minimum. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t plan on bringing him back. That’s because this restriction is only up until November, after which the Warriors will likely save a spot for Seth Curry and re-sign him. Stein suggested that it’s all part of Mike Dunleavy and Co.’s plan as they’ll likely save the 15th spot for the veteran guard.

Before the new campaign begins, teams must reduce their roster to 15 standard players and 3 two-way players. Currently, after waiving Seth Curry and LJ Cryer, they have 17 players on their roster. Therefore, it’s likely that we will see a few more departures before the 5:00 p.m. EST deadline for non-guaranteed contract waivers. However, it seems that they are planning to re-sign Stephen Curry’s brother, which would definitely be a good move.
Even though the veteran guard might not have reached the heights his brother has, he’s still a phenomenal three-point shooter. Last season, while playing for the Hornets, Seth averaged 6.5 points along with 1.7 rebounds and 0.9 assists while shooting 47.8 % from the field and a league-high 45.6 % from the three-point line. So, the Golden State Warriors should find a way after all to acquire Seth Curry yet again. In the meantime, His older brother his hoping for a strong start to the season.

Stephen Curry aims for a strong start for the Warriors’ regular season
While Seth Curry might have to wait a bit longer until he reunites with his brother. In the meantime, Stephen Curry is focused on giving his team a strong start by the time his brother returns. It’s no secret that the four-time NBA champion is a strong believer in building momentum from the get-go. We all witnessed that last season when the Warriors came in hot into the 2024-25 season and built a 9-3 record, but lost their groove later down the road and lost five in a row and never really recovered from that.

Stephen Curry acknowledged the same and suggested that’s something he and his team will be trying to avoid this season. “It’s the same mission every year. Last year, we accomplished it, but the wheels fell out a bit,” he told the reporters. “You don’t want to fast-forward too much or panic if it doesn’t go well.” The soon-to-be Hall of Fame point guard pointed out that getting a solid start is something that’s always his team’s focus.
However, in case that doesn’t work out, they should not panic, something that the Warriors were guilty of last season. So, this season, he hopes that they won’t repeat the same mistake. Well, that should be the case given that the Dubs did not have Jimmy Butler on their roster. Even though there’s a bit of uncertainty around the forward’s fitness, if he can play serious minutes, it’s safe to assume that the Dubs will enjoy a great start to the new season.
