On March 7, the Golden State Warriors suffered not just one but two injury setbacks. Apart from Stephen Curry rolling his right ankle during Thursday’s loss against the Chicago Bulls, rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis also picked up a right ankle sprain towards the end of the game. As a result of the sprain, the 24-year-old is now listed as questionable for tonight’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.

TJD has been a force off the bench, impacting the game on both ends of the floor. Moreover, with Curry also sidelined, the injury update does not sound too good for the 10th-seeded Golden State Warriors. However, playoff implications aside, his absence could also thwart his plans to get more minutes on the team.

During a recent episode of 95.7 The Game, TJD issued a challenge to head coach Steve Kerr before dropping off the call. When asked if he had a message for Kerr before their poker tournament, Jackson-Davis hesitated for a moment before declaring, “Tell him I’m coming for him!” He also entertained the hosts’ proposition of extending his minutes to 30 a night should he beat Kerr in the poker tournament

However, it looks like he might have to wait some more to get those minutes if he does win the bet. But regardless of the bet’s outcome, his standout performance in his first season makes a compelling argument for him to receive those minutes.

Steve Kerr to “ramp up” the minutes of Trayce Jackson-Davis

From being the 57th overall pick to mostly watching the games from the sidelines to now having a consistent role in the team’s frontcourt rotation, TJD has come a long way. He has logged in double-digit minutes in all games but one since the All-Star break and has proven his mettle in every single one of them. More proof of his brilliance came during their recent 125-90 blowout win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

The former Indiana Hoosiers All-American tallied 15 points, six rebounds, and four blocks on Wednesday. Three of those four blocks were against two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. And this is the energy they’ll need in the playoffs. After his masterclass, Kerr said, “We have to get Trayce more minutes to get him ready for the playoffs because he needs reps and more time. You can see what he did tonight. He has an ability to finish and block shots that gives us a different look. We decided to ramp up his minutes.”
