Stephen Curry hasn’t graced the court since leaving the game against the Detroit Pistons on January 30. Runner’s knee, or patellofemoral pain syndrome, has kept the 37-year-old out of action. However, everyone in the Bay Area was hopeful that Curry would return after the All-Star break. The veteran even confirmed on February 5 that his right knee was “trending in the right direction.” However, there appears to be a delay in his return.

The Golden State Warriors head coach, Steve Kerr, confirmed Wednesday that Curry will miss Thursday’s game against the Boston Celtics. Earlier tonight, the Warriors’ training staff and Curry chose not to have a full workout after he admitted his knee did not feel ready.
“We’ve got to be certain, he’s got to be certain,” Kerr said. “It is a little nebulous, but that’s the nature of the injury.”
Meanwhile, Kristaps Porzingis practiced and is questionable for tomorrow’s game. However, the new Warriors star gave reporters the soft signal that he was “ready to go.”
In contrast, Kerr held Curry out, reiterating that the knee was not ready. Therefore, the Warriors remain patient.
Curry’s delayed return to the court could be linked to one of his pre-All-Star break statements.
Steve Kerr said Warriors’ training staff and Steph Curry opted against the full workout tonight when he reported not feeling it ready. Called the “runner’s knee” issue Curry is dealing with nebulous.

“You have to try to get rid of all the inflammation and pain,” Curry said. “It’s something we still have to monitor and injury-manage, but it’s something where, if I come back too early, it could flare up.”
At present, the Warriors are fighting for survival for the postseason slots in the West. They are the eighth seed with a 29-26 record. This season, Kerr’s team has won 59% of the time with Curry. However, whenever the team has sidelined him for injury or rest, the team’s win percentage has fallen to 37.5%. This shows how important it is for them to have the Baby-Faced Assassin on the floor.
However, it seems most unlikely that Curry will suit up. Therefore, the major concern is a thin rotation on Thursday.
The Warriors’ lineup without Stephen Curry
The Warriors recently announced that Seth Curry will undergo a re-evaluation in two weeks as he recovers from sciatica. Meanwhile, with both Curry brothers and Jimmy Butler sidelined, the team has only 11 players on standard contracts available. If Porzingis cannot play, that number drops to 10.
The Dubs managed two gritty wins before the All-Star break. However, the Celtics pose a far tougher test than the Phoenix Suns without Devin Booker or the Memphis Grizzlies without Ja Morant.
Therefore, the team could go with heavier minutes for Gui Santos, Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski, and Pat Spencer. Meanwhile, De’Anthony Melton, Draymond Green, and Al Horford could settle for around 25 minutes, and Gary Payton II, Will Richard, and Quinten Post will see some time off the bench.
Possible starting 5:
- Pat Spencer
- De’Anthony Melton
- Moses Moody
- Gui Santos
- Draymond Green
The Warriors need their anchor, but Curry is on the sidelines for now. Therefore, the Dubs can only be patient, as they tread through a loaded West without him. The games do not get any easier as they are set to face the Denver Nuggets on Sunday.
