The Golden State Warriors’ trip to Sacramento didn’t go as planned. Playing without Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler, one of the league’s oldest rosters looked visibly drained on the second night of a back-to-back. After their impressive win over the Suns, Golden State struggled to find the same spark, falling 116-121 to the Kings. Curry, who had shouldered responsibility for earlier losses, watched from the sidelines as his team battled but couldn’t close it out. With the defeat, the Warriors slipped to 5-4, while the Kings improved to 3-5.

Warriors vs Kings: game summary and key moments

The showdown between the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings was supposed to be a battle of stars, instead, it turned into a night for the underdogs. Both teams came in battered, missing key names like Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green for the Warriors, and Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine for the Kings. Despite the short-handed rosters, the matchup on Wednesday turned out to be a thrilling back-and-forth contest that ended with the Kings pulling out a 121-116 win.

Russell Westbrook reminded everyone why he’s still one of the fiercest competitors in the league, notching his NBA-record 204th career triple-double with 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists. Dennis Schroder came up clutch, knocking down three huge threes in a decisive 11-0 fourth-quarter run that broke the game open. DeMar DeRozan led Sacramento with 25 points, while Schroder’s late spark helped secure the team’s second consecutive victory after a rough start to the season.

The Warriors’ young guns refused to go quietly. Rookie Will Richard exploded for a career-high 30 points, while Moses Moody added 28, continuing his breakout week. Jonathan Kuminga chipped in with 24 points and nine rebounds, but his late missed jumper in the lane with 24 seconds left sealed Golden State’s fate. Despite building a 13-point first-half lead, turnovers: 19 in total and sloppy late-game execution proved costly.

It was a night where experience trumped youth. Sacramento, now 3-5, showed poise when it mattered, controlling the pace and capitalizing on the Warriors’ mistakes. Golden State, falling to 5-4, battled with heart but couldn’t overcome the absence of their stars. Still, the performance from their young core gave fans a glimpse of the future.
