Exits are piling up at ESPN. After Molly Querim’s departure last month, the next high-profile exit is Bob Myers, the architect of the GS Warriors dynasty. The 50-year-old has been an analyst on ESPN since leaving the Warriors in 2023, where he was the franchise’s GM for a decade. But earlier today, it was announced that Myers is joining Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, which owns several teams, including the Philadelphia 76ers. As he leaves, ESPN colleagues, including Malika Andrews, joined in wishing him the best.

It’s safe to say that Bob Myers built great relationships with several of the ESPN employees while working alongside them. Of all, Bob had a special bond with Malika Andrews. Both worked together for the sports network’s show ‘NBA Countdown‘, where they shared a lot of time reporting from courtside. The ESPN host took to IG to express how happy she was that Myers landed the role he was looking for, while also being sad that he no longer will be working alongside her.
“Congratulations, Bob!! Grateful for two years of laughs and insight on NBA Countdown. They got a good one!” She wrote with a picture of her and Myers having a great laugh courtside. Without doubt, HBSE has gained a great asset. The former Dubs GM has not only won individual accolades but also led the franchise to seven NBA Finals and four NBA championships. Nonetheless, it wasn’t just Andrews who got a little emotional on Myers’ farewell.

Mylers also shared a similar sentiment. During his newest statement, the 50-year-old gave a shoutout to his ESPN colleagues for making his broadcasting stint a memorable experience. Myers thanked the ESPN team, saying, “I also want to thank Bob Iger, Jimmy Pitaro, and my colleagues at ESPN for an incredible experience during my time there and for their support as I pursue the next chapter of my career.”

Now, it will be worth watching how the former NCAA and NBA champion fares in his new role with the HBSE organization. However, before he does, there are a lot of questions about what his job would be like in there.
What will Bob Myers’ new role look like with HBSE?
After serving as an NBA analyst for the past two years, Bob Myers is back in the sports management space. However, this time around, his role isn’t limited to a single team. The veteran joins Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment as its sports president, where he’ll be managing the organization’s entire portfolio of major sports franchises around the league. This again is a fresh challenge, probably harder than running a basketball franchise. But how exactly will he help HBSE?
Myers is all set to look after the likes of, NHL’s New Jersey Devils, NASCAR’s Joe Gibbs Racing, Crystal Palace of the English Premier League, NFL’s Washington Commanders, and of course, the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers. In fact, this intriguing part is a huge reason he’s given his nod to this role in the first place. “I have been fortunate to know Josh and David for a long time, and I’ve always greatly admired them and respected how they’ve built such an impressive global sports portfolio,” Myers said about the role.

“This role was intriguing because it provides the opportunity to work with some of the industry’s most talented leaders and executives across the world’s biggest sports leagues. … This is the type of challenge and opportunity I was looking for.” He further added. Now, he’s got the challenge he was seeking. While this might make you think that Myers is set to replace some of these organizations’ executives as he joins HBSE, that’s not the case.
His hiring will not have any impact on any of the teams’ organizational structures. However, he will be overseeing each of them. Well, it’s safe to say that after understanding Myers’ new rule, you truly see how groundbreaking it is. Now, the only thing that’s left to see is him assuming this role and making it his own, as he did for the Golden State Warriors. But will he be able to replicate the success he achieved with the NBA franchise in this new space? We’ll have to wait and watch.
