The Philadelphia 76ers’ frustrating season continues to get worse. Tonight, the team hosted the Chicago Bulls with a short-handed roster, leaving out the usual suspects like Joel Embiid and Kyle Lowry. This situation ultimately left the French man Guerschon Yabusele to take the brunt of the pressure on the front court. Unfortunately, adding up to the offensive expectations, the big man sustained a scary blow in both eyes. Amid the team’s financial deadlock, the latest updates on his injury are far from encouraging!

Firstly, the Sixers stood no chance against the Bulls. Coming off the halftime break, the Sixers trailed by 17 points. The home side, despite their shortcomings, stepped on the court with determination. There was a sense of urgency in their play right from the opening minute. With only 40 seconds into the third quarter, Yabusele muscles his way into the paint for a bucket. At that time, Josh Giddey, who was guarding him, awkwardly landed his hand on the Frenchman’s face.

Guerschon Yabusele immediately covered his face with unbearable pain. The game came to a brief pause, with the medical staff walking onto the court. A visual later revealed that the star struggled to even open his eyes. Eventually, he was escorted off the court, and the team announced that he wouldn’t return for the rest of the game.

While the severity of the injury wasn’t known yet, the latest update revealed that the forward suffered a corneal abrasion in one eye and a swelling surrounding the other eye, Kyle Neubeck tweeted.

The PHLY Sports reporter further noted that the “hope is that he avoided retinal damage” and “both of Yabusele’s eyes will continue to be evaluated tomorrow.”

However, that’s not enough. Yabusele’s return remains uncertain, as the team will evaluate both his eyes tomorrow for further updates. At the same time, the team has a huge mess to clean up. The financial mess!

Guerschon Yabusele’s scary injury further deepens the Sixers’ financial crisis

On paper, the Sixers’ latest financial moves might seem like a front-office fairytale. They roped in the 9x All-Star, Paul George, in free agency, and they extended Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid’s stay on the team. Sounds threatening, right? Except that it didn’t go as expected.

While young gun Maxey consistently performed, he rarely received support from his peers. PG, who signed a 4-year $212 million contract, barely showed his prowess, averaging 16.1 ppg and missed 19 games so far. On the other hand, Embiid, who extended his contract for 3 more years for $193 million, confirming his stay till 2027-28, hasn’t been at his best dealing with a nagging knee condition.

In the last game against the Nets, the big man sat on the bench in the last quarter, witnessing his team suffer yet another loss. Later, Shams Charania updated that Embiid might undergo another knee surgery, which will keep him out for the rest of the season and also part of the next season. Standing in the 12th seed, it’s safe to say, the team’s season is ultimately over.

On top of it, the 76ers can’t really move any assets to save themselves, as they stand $6.5 million above the tax slab. Unless the team relieved themselves by trading one of the superstars, they don’t have a future for the next three years. Amid this deadlock situation, Guerschon Yabusele’s scary injury has only deepened the team’s struggle.
