Having Ditched 40 Nets Games, Ben Simmons Confesses Harsh Truth on Reviving Ailing NBA Career: “I Did What I Could”

Ben Simmons is one of the most scrutinized and critiqued players in the NBA. Despite a promising start, Simmons has yet to reach his potential over the years. Both his on-court performance and off-court behavior have undermined his reputation in the eyes of analysts and fans. Furthermore, even NBA legends like Shaquille O’Neal have voiced their reservations concerning Simmons. However, as the 2023 season approached, Simmons was displaying a new persona altogether.

Amidst the barrage of criticism, Ben Simmons is poised to make a triumphant return to the NBA. Having undergone successful rehabilitation of his knee injury, Simmons claims to be 100% healthy. Furthermore, Simmons is dropping hints that the upcoming season can be better than his recent years.

During a mentorship event hosted by Ben Simmons’ foundation, FS1’s Tina Cervasio had a brief and insightful conversation with the all-star. Initially, the two discussed Ben’s foundation’s philanthropic efforts and his commitment to giving back to society. However, the conversation took a turn when Tina broached the topic of Simmons’ tumultuous recent years.

In response to the question about his challenges while in Brooklyn, Simmons candidly acknowledged, “I was dealing with injury at the the time, so I did what I could.”

Simmons’ newfound optimism is visible throughout the interview. Furthermore, he declares his readiness and promises a significantly improve in performance for the upcoming year. Moreover, Simmons is set to reprise his role as the point guard for the Brooklyn Nets.

In contrast to his recent seasons, Ben radiates sheer confidence in the team and a strong desire to assume a leadership role within the Nets.

Simmons claims the new Nets are easy to play with

The FS1 interview is Simmons’ first local TV interview since returning from a six-month rehab stint in Miami after surgery. In the interview, he shared his enthusiasm about playing with the Nets. When asked by Cervasio what excites him most about joining the team, Simmons emphasized the unity of keeping team goals ahead of individual aspirations. He also praised the new Brooklyn Nets roster, describing the squad to be “easy to play with.”

When Cervasio inquired if he had a message, Simmons called upon the fans, “Get ready for a great year. I think it’s going to be exciting, we’re going to have a lot of fun. Get back to Brooklyn basketball.”

Last season, Simmons was notably absent from the court for 40 games due to back pain, ultimately ending his season prematurely. Throughout those 42 games, his statistics took a dip. He averaged 6.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists and less than 7 points. It marked his worst season in his NBA career.

This season, Simmons, alongside Mikal Bridges and Nic Claxton, will be tasked with elevating the Nets. The fans want to see a surge in Simmons’ performance and, hopefully a postseason return for the team.
