Luka Doncic truly silenced his heckling fans with his Game 2 performance despite suffering continuous pain against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Co. No wonder the Dallas Mavericks guard was one of the top contenders for the MVP award. However, just a day before the games, the Michael Jordan Trophy recipient of this year was announced, and Nikola Jokic, as expected, took the title for the third consecutive year. However, Luka seemed to be feeling down about it, as the voters did not find his explosive regular season performance enough to choose him for the award.

After Game 2 against the OKC in the second round of playoffs, Luka honestly confessed his feelings about the MVP award going to his supposedly best friend Jokic, “I kind of knew in the end, I probably wasn’t going to win it but hopefully one day I can win it.” However, the Mavs guard hoped to win it at the start of the playoffs. With his average of 33.9 points during the regular season, which is an NBA record, Doncic could have bagged the award. But the injury that he sustained during the playoffs took him down. Yet the Slovenian basketball player has not given up on being an MVP in the future. On being asked if he got motivated by the snub, Luka replied, “Yeah, of course. Who don’t want to win the MVP in the NBA?

Even Doncic’s fellow Mavs point guard Kyrie Irving claimed that Luka would be an MVP winner sometime in the future very soon. However, Kyrie questioned the voting system for the MVP system as he demanded that players should also get a part in the voting system. But it is difficult to imagine if the league will make the amendments, as advised by Luka Doncic’s teammate Kyrie Irving.

Luka has his eyes on the MVP with more focus after his teasing friend clinched the most coveted award in the NBA.

Yet, it is least expected to come between Doncic and Jokic as both are healthy competitors in the league. Moreover, both of them are quite focused on their teams rather than going off about personal goals. It will be worth watching if the duo could get to see each other in the playoffs.
