After a third consecutive game of hitting 3 triples, James Harden stood level with Ray Allen on the all-time three-pointer list. It was only a matter of time before the Beard, a renowned scoring sicko would find nylon once again. And at the 6th-minute mark against the Utah Jazz, he buried the record breaker. Harden pointed to the sky, recognizing the feat, now sitting only behind Stephen Curry.

But how did this three-point journey come to fruition? James Harden’s journey began when he got his own platform and the ultimate green light with the Houston Rockets.

In his peak season, specifically the 2018-19 campaign, Harden launched his most attempts ever in a season, 1028. That, of course, came at a time when basketball had changed because of the advent of Curry. In his 18 seasons, Ray Allen attempted to take over 600 three-pointers per season just ONCE. Likewise, modern-day guards are fast closing in on his previously set record in 2011.

As for his career, Harden had attempted 8187 three-pointers just to tie Allen’s record. The Bucks legend now sits at 750 fewer shots than Harden throughout his decorated career. Moreover, in terms of efficiency, Ray Allen mastered the fundamentals, hitting 40% of those 7429 attempts. On the other hand, Harden has converted 36.3% prior to passing the former Heat shooting guard.

But how does all of this compare to the ultimate GOAT of shooting?

How does James Harden compare to Stephen Curry?

When asked about becoming the second leading scorer, James Harden had a unique answer. The 35-year-old veteran considered himself to be the most decorated shooter. “Steph don’t count,” he told Shams Charania. Obviously, he didn’t need to state the reasons. The Baby Face Assassin is what some would term a video game shooter.

He normalized the concept of ignoring the three-point line and redefining what long-distance shooting entails. Despite having played close to 100 games less than Harden, the Warriors’ living legend has attempted over 700 more threes than him. He currently sits at 8886 attempts in 965 career games…

Can James Harden catch him? Stephen Curry has only managed to create a difference of 800+ three-pointers made. Still, never say never.

Furthermore, Stephen Curry isn’t at the pace of slowing down. The 36-year-old is averaging 3.9 triples this season in just 28.8 minutes per night. Even though Steve Kerr had vowed to stick to his new 12-man rotation, he is confident about his talisman’s minutes increasing as the season goes deeper.

With that in mind, it’s probably time to say it now. For a considerable time at least, no man in this realm will reach Stephen Curry’s tally. The master marksman is evidently in a class of his own and continues to astonish the NBA community, perfecting the art of shooting the ball.

The NBA legend once told the world to “embrace the talent and the God-given gifts we’ve been given, everybody has that. You just have to figure out what that is and pour everything you have into it.”
