The Los Angeles Lakers just recently got their star trio back when star guard Austin Reaves rejoined the lineup next to superstars Luka Doncic and LeBron James a few days ago against the Brooklyn Nets. However, things seem to be going sideways for the team, which saw Doncic injured during the nail-biter against the Philadelphia 76ers. Now, head coach JJ Redick has issued an update on his condition.

According to Lakers reporter Daniel Starkland, Redick said Doncic has a “mild” hamstring strain and will be day-to-day moving forward. According to previous reporting, there was optimism that his hamstring issue was not serious, and this seems to confirm it.

The Slovenian has a long history of soft-tissue injuries, particularly in his lower body, which is why the team is likely to take it slow with Doncic. Just earlier this year, during a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Rocket Arena, he seemingly rolled his ankle on the raised floor, though he returned later in the game.

The Lakers stars’ injuries have been extremely unfortunately timed. Doncic, Reaves, and James have only played in 10 of their 50 games before tonight, despite which the Lakers have managed to stay afloat. LA sits 5th in the Western Conference, and have already secured 31 wins, but Doncic’s injury is still a heavy blow, especially in terms of his production.

Doncic is the leading scorer in the NBA this season, averaging 32.8 points per game, while also adding 8.6 assists and 7.8 rebounds as the offensive engine of the Lakers team. After having a slow start from beyond the arc, he had been steadily improving in that regard before the injury, averaging 37.7% on long range shots over his last 10 games.

Luka Doncic joins Stephen Curry in Sitting Out Marquee Western Conference Matchup

Fortunately for the Lakers, they’re not the only ones missing their superstar point guard during tonight’s nationally televised game. For the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry is also sidelined, as he continues dealing with Runner’s Knee. He spoke recently with ESPN reporter Anthony Slater, explaining the status of his current injury.

“It’s trending in the right direction,” Curry said. “It’s different than last year, but something that will heal… It’s a matter of learning as I go what works rehab-wise. Because it’s still painful. You have to try to get rid of all the inflammation and pain.”

The sharpshooting savant has missed a significant number of the team’s games this season, dealing with a variety of issues ranging from sickness to tendinitis on both of his knees. He, like Doncic, is listed day-to-day, but was ruled out of tonight’s game earlier.

For now, the goal for both Curry and Doncic is avoiding a flare-up of their injuries from coming back too early, which their teams are likely to monitor closely. Only time will tell if their teams can hold up in the standings without either star, but tonight should be an interesting faceoff.
