Mac McClung has come a long way from a small town in Virginia to a two-way player for the Orlando Magic and a two-time defending champion of the prestigious NBA Slam Dunk contest. However, it hasn’t been an easy road for the 6-foot-2 guard. He first rose to stardom by posting dunk videos on Instagram and TikTok.

“My hometown is small, like a thousand people,” McClung said. “I saw it was getting views, but until I left my small town, I didn’t realize that people knew who I was. We’d go to play and sell out games.” McClung couldn’t believe that people were aware of his electrifying dunking talent. Now, anyone who is an avid NBA fan knows who McClung is. However, hooping has also helped the 26-year-old make a fortune playing the sport he loves.

Mac McClung’s name has now become synonymous with the Slam Dunk contest. Well, the Magic guard was surprised when he got the call to participate in the challenge for the first time. Suiting up for the Delaware Blue Coats at the time, McClung thought someone was pulling his leg when he received a call to participate in the contest. However, it went better than expected for McClung, who brought home the trophy.

Now shifting our focus to the 26-year-old’s contract with the Magic. For the 2024-25, Mac is set to make a massive $578,577 through his two-way contract with Orlando. After this, he will hit the restricted free agency. Well, with the stellar performances he’s been showing in the G League, it won’t be a surprise if the Magic decides to re-sign McClung.

Interestingly, he’s been around the league for a decent time now and inked several contracts. The guard has spent the majority of his career so far in the G League and that’s largely due to two-way contracts. This includes deals with the Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Los Angeles Lakers. That brings us to one question: How much has he earned through his paychecks? Well, according to estimates, he’s made a whopping $299,681 through his NBA contracts.

Which University did Mac McClung attend? When was he drafted into the league?
Mac McClung was labeled as “one of the most exciting players” during his high school career. Well, naturally, he attracted multiple college offers before he gave his nod to Georgetown University. He made sure to leave his mark while suiting up for Georgetown, a team coached by NBA legend Patrick Ewing, who helped McClung develop into a real threat on the hardwood.

Over the three years McClung was there, he averaged an impressive 15.7 points and 2.4 assists. When his senior year approached, he transferred to Texas Tech in 2020-21. A significant factor in switching schools was Texas Tech’s head coach, Chris Bear. “He did his research on me, and I looked him in the eyes and trusted him. I knew he had my back; It was one of the favorite years of my life. We were top 10 a lot that year, so it was successful.” McClung expressed. As a senior for Texas, McClung averaged 14.2 points per game.

Following a great season, he decided it was time to make the jump to the professional level. So, he declared for the 2021 NBA Draft in hopes of being picked by an NBA team. However unfortunately, McClung went undrafted, but he didn’t give up! His hard work wasn’t going to go unnoticed. Soon, he was called by the Lakers to join their Summer League team. Through this, he worked his way to a G League contract and since then has been navigating through his journey with the dreams of cementing his name as a regular in the league.
