After losing their fourth playoff game at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Lakers have now been eliminated from the NBA tournament. This also concludes the 21 season of the franchise’s star scorer LeBron James. Rumours have been circulating since the past couple of months about the player looking to make an exit from the Lakers or retire from the NBA as a whole. However, from his recent statement, the 39-year-old has made it clear that his priorities currently somewhere.

During the post-game press conference, LeBron James highlighted his wish to focus more on his family during the postseason. He proceeded to state how “One of my boys (Bronny) is trying to decide if he’s gonna enter the drafts or go back to school, another kid (Bryce) that’s playing AAU ball right now. My daughter is playing volleyball and my wife is doing so many great things. It’s about family right now”.

The conversation about Bronny James, LeBron’s eldest, potentially joining the NBA has been running rampant in the basketball world for quite some time now. Since he has already declared for the 2024 draft, it’s up to the Lakers star now to decide whether he would like to play alongside his son once before considering retirement.

“I haven’t given it much thought lately” said LeBron when talking about playing with Bronny. “At the end of the day, the kid has to do what he wants to do……… I just think the fact that we’ve been having a conversation is pretty cool, in the sense of that”.

Bronny James did not have a remarkable college basketball career to his name. During his 25 appearances, he could only establish an average score of 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He scored in the double digits in 3 games, and never went as high as 15 points. Given these stats, many analysts have called out the young player for not being an NBA-worthy candidate. However, LeBron James had often hinted earlier that he would like to play with his son just once, even if it came at the expense of leaving the Lakers. Therefore, the thought of acquiring the All-Time Leading Scorer into their fold has increased the appeal for many franchises to consider taking in Bronny during the upcoming draft. As it turns out, however, the Lakers may not want to let go of their star player anytime soon.

LeBron James has failed to clinch his 5 championship title, or failed to reach even close to it, for the fourth time in a row now. With not much time remaining for him, the player would want to take his talents somewhere where he feels he might have a chance. Furthermore, allowing them to add Bronny into the roster would just be an added bonus. However, through this recent update, the Lakers have made it clear that they would like the 39-year-old to play for at least two more seasons. According to ‘The Athletic’, the franchise is even prepared to offer Lebron the maximum 3-year, $164 million extension that they are allowed to offer. By bringing Bronny into their fold, the four time NBA champion would have no choice but to stay on with the team.

Do you think that LeBron James should continue staying the Lakers? Or should he devote his remaining years to another franchise? Let us know in the comments down below.
