As the NBA preseason nears its end, the Dallas Mavericks are looking to maximize their final tune-ups, starting tonight against the Utah Jazz. Dallas is coming off a disappointing loss to the Charlotte Hornets, where several key players struggled to find their rhythm. Among them was Anthony Davis, whose sluggish performance raised eyebrows. With just two games left before the regular season, the question now is whether Davis will take the floor tonight or get some much-needed rest before the real test begins.

As things stand, Anthony Davis is expected to suit up tonight. Though the veteran forward struggled in the previous outing, he’s healthy and eager to find his rhythm before the regular-season opener against the Spurs. One possible factor behind the sluggish start is his conditioning. Reports suggest Davis arrived at Mavericks training camp about 15 pounds above his ideal playing weight, raising questions about his early-season readiness.
Nonetheless, while this clears the air around the superstar forward’s availability for tonight’s clash, that doesn’t mean Dallas will be at full strength against Utah. The Mavs have a long injury list and are expected to miss several players.

Dallas Mavericks injury report ahead of tonight’s matchup
Although Anthony Davis is set to play in tonight’s preseason matchup, the Mavericks will be without Kyrie Irving and Daniel Gafford. Both stars are sidelined with significant injuries and are expected to miss multiple games. Irving remains in rehab as he continues recovering from an ACL injury, while Gafford suffered a severe ankle sprain during practice. Early reports suggest the big man could be out for at least two to three weeks, leaving Dallas short-handed as the regular season approaches.

Dallas’ injury concerns extend beyond just two players. Brandon Williams remains day-to-day with a hamstring issue and has already missed the first two exhibition games, and he’s expected to sit out the final two as well. Veteran guard Dante Exum is also sidelined with a knee injury. The 30-year-old, projected to be a key backup this season, has yet to make his preseason debut. These setbacks could impact the Mavericks’ backcourt depth heading into the regular season.
Meanwhile, Dalano Banton will sit out tonight’s game, as the Mavericks have opted to rest the 25-year-old guard. Banton has yet to make his debut for Dallas this preseason. Forward Caleb Martin will also be unavailable due to undisclosed reasons, according to ESPN. Martin struggled in his last appearance against Charlotte, going scoreless in 12 minutes of action. Both absences add to the growing list of unavailable players for the Mavericks as the preseason winds down.
