The Los Angeles Lakers are doing the unthinkable as they keep winning without their biggest stars. After a four-game streak capped by a win over the Trail Blazers, the purple and gold continue to fight through constant injuries. Even without LeBron James, the team has managed its way to win 6-2 with the help of Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Now, as they prepare to face the Spurs, all eyes are on Reaves’ possible return tonight.

There was hope for Lakers Nation, but no more. Austin Reaves’ injury status has been downgraded, and he will miss a second-straight game. Reaves was earlier listed as questionable for tonight’s matchup against the San Antonio Spurs. But what exactly happened to him?

Head coach JJ Redick had revealed that the guard tweaked his groin in the first quarter of Sunday night’s 130-120 win over the Miami Heat. But he still managed to play through the discomfort, finishing the night with an impressive 26 points. Now, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic, the team is optimistic about Reaves’ injury, stating that there “is nothing too serious.”

Reaves had to be re-evaluated on Tuesday to determine his availability. In seven of the eight games he played this season, Reaves has been on a tear. He is averaging 31.1 points, 9.3 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 48.9% from the field.

Match Preview & Predictions

The Lakers enter this game riding a four-game winning streak. They are now 6-2 with their recent 123-115 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. And surprisingly, this win was powered by Deandre Ayton’s 29 points against his former team. Rui Hachimura also added 28 points, proving that the supporting cast can carry the load in the absence of the Luka-LeBron-Reaves trio.

The San Antonio Spurs, on the other hand, have their star Victor Wembanyama in all his glory. But he put up only 9 points in his 34 minutes against the Suns on Sunday. With Reaves out tonight, the Lakers’ perimeter game will continue to miss his presence. In his absence, Marcus Smart and the rest of the supporting cast are expected to continue steering the offense. Playing at home gives the Lakers a clear edge. And the rest, we are yet to see tonight.
