His father, Aaron Hunter Sr., passed away when De’Andre was just seven years old. He was raised by his mother, Priscilla, alongside his brother Aaron Jr., who played a huge role in shaping his love for the game.

He started gaining attention for his game at Friends’ Central School and later became a four-star recruit at the University of Virginia. In his sophomore year, Hunter was leading his college’s team, the Virginia Cavaliers, to victory at the 2019 NCAA Championship.
