The Golden State Warriors have been the premier team of the NBA for the last decade. Under the tutelage of Steve Kerr, players like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant have won four NBA titles in the last eight years. Draymond Green played a crucial role in the Warriors’ success. Without the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year, the Warriors’ position-less style of play would be much easier to take advantage of.

Golden State will soon begin the season against division rivals, Phoenix Suns. Not only will this matchup pit Chris Paul against his former team, it could also be the much-awaited return of Draymond.

As the Warriors’ game against the Suns draws nearer, the status of Warriors’ emotional leader, Draymond Green, remains in doubt. The 33-year-old suffered a sprained left ankle during off-season workouts. Due to the injury, Green has missed all five of Warriors’ preseason games. But Green has been cleared to practice with the team and play five-on-five games.

In a pre-match press conference, when asked about Green’s recovery Kerr said, “First time he played five on five, We didn’t scrimmage for long, but he did play and it is good for him to get out there and great for us to have him back”.

When asked about Draymond’s spot in the season opener, Kerr replied, “For sure he is looking good out there, but I would say questionable for Tuesday (vs the Suns)”.

While Draymond might miss the season opener, it bodes well for the Warriors that he has recovered from his injury and could make a return sooner rather than later.
