NBA players constantly walk under the spotlight, but now and then, there are a few players who manage to evade the scrutiny of the public eye. The Detroit Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart may just be one of such players. Although, the 22-year-old power forward has recently grabbed headlines for less-than-desirable reasons.

Stewart’s journey began at McQuaid Jesuit High School, where his talent led him to La Lumiere School. College ball at the University of Washington followed, further showcasing his skills. This young forward even represented the U.S. U-17 team, capturing gold at the 2018 FIBA U-17 World Cup in Argentina.

Stewart’s achievements extended beyond the international stage, garnering coveted accolades like Mr. Basketball USA, McDonald’s All-American, and Naismith Prep Player of the Year in 2019. These distinctions cemented his status as a highly sought-after prospect.

The 2020 NBA Draft saw Stewart land with the Portland Trail Blazers as the 16th overall pick. However, a whirlwind of trades followed, ultimately placing him with the Detroit Pistons alongside Trevor Ariza. His rookie year concluded with a signed rookie scale contract, and on July 10th, 2023, Stewart’s commitment to the team materialized in a whopping four-year, $64 million contract extension.

So, is there a special partner in Stewart’s life?

Despite a deep dive into the depths of the internet, one won’t be able to unearth if the 22-year-old is married, or has a girlfriend or a partner. From a quick scan of his Instagram, all that one can make out is that even if the Pistons’ power forward isn’t very public about a partner albeit he has one, he is thoroughly close to his father and is vocal about him being his major source of inspiration.

In fact, in an attempt to pay homage to their ancestors, Stewart, along with his father, visited Jamaica back in August 2023 and stayed there for a considerable amount of time.

While Stewart may lead a very private life despite being under the scanner, it’s his recent actions that have thrust him into the spotlight for reasons he probably wouldn’t prefer.

Concerning the altercations in Stewart’s young career

It was the day after Valentine’s Day and the Detroit Pistons (with a rather underwhelming record of 8-46) were geared up for their showdown with the Phoenix Suns. but before the match-up could take place, another incident happened near the tunnels of the Footprint Center, home of the Phoenix Suns.

An altercation erupted between Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart and Suns’ Drew Eubanks. As first reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the two big men exchanged words, words escalated into a punch thrown by Stewart, connecting with Eubanks’ face. The Phoenix Police Department responded by arresting Stewart for assault, citing and releasing him with the investigation still ongoing.

As per Eubanks, “Basically we were walking in, words were said, and then got face-to-face and he just sucker-punched me, security got in the way.” He further added, “Clearly, you can see what he does, how he acts on the court, so it’s not surprising.”

Soft punch” is what Drew Eubanks chalked up the incident as and insisted on playing against the Pistons, which he did, and managed to bag 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block in 18 minutes in the Suns’ 116-100 win.

Now the 22-year-old forward has found himself in a legal soup. According to the Police, Stewart has been charged with a misdemeanor assault charge and the Phoenix Municipal Court has set February 23rd as the court date.

This isn’t the first time the Pistons’ power forward has been a part of a serious altercation on/off the court. In 2021, Stewart was involved in an on-court altercation with superstar LeBron James after his elbow hit the Pistons player’s face, which led to James’ first-ever suspension.

The Detroit Pistons’ forward went into absolute beast mode running across the court trying to get a piece of the Lakers’ superstar LeBron James. The altercation resulted in a two-game suspension for Stewart. Stewart was also involved in a separate incident with the Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green in January 2023. He was also ejected earlier this season for a forearm shiver on Patrick Beverley

While the Suns secured victory (70-41 halftime, final 116-100), Stewart’s actions resulted in a missed game for the Pistons, pushing them further down the Eastern Conference standings. Now the lowest team in their division, the Detroit Pistons will be getting ready for their showdown with the Indiana Pacers (6th in the Eastern Conference) on February 23rd.
