The Warrior who faced suspensions this season is speaking for someone facing his fate at the moment. On February 14, just before the Phoenix Suns handed Detroit Pistons their 46th loss of the season, an altercation unfolded in the parking lot. What began as a verbal dispute quickly escalated, culminating in Pistons forward Isaiah Stewart striking Suns forward Drew Eubanks in the face.

Following the incident, Stewart was arrested for assault and received a citation from the Phoenix Police Department before being released. However, the charges were dropped by the Phoenix Municipal Court, just one day before his scheduled arraignment. But the league did not let it slide and took disciplinary action against the Pistons forward. The NBA suspended Stewart for three games without pay. While the league condemned Beef Stew’s action, he found a supporter in Draymond Green.

Draymond Green’s message to Isaiah Stewart

The Warriors’ defensive anchor has already served two suspensions this season. He was first suspended five games without pay for putting Rudy Gobert in a chokehold during the team’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 15. Then less than a month later, he was suspended indefinitely for striking Suns’ center Jusuf Nurkic across the face. The said indefinite suspension lasted for 12 games before the league reinstated him after he underwent an extensive counseling program.

During this time, several players, including Kevin Durant, Nurkic, and even the Warriors’ head coach, acknowledged that Green “needs help.” However, Green asserts that this is one thing he won’t do to Stewart since he does not know what transpired behind the scenes. “Not going to sit here and castrate Isaiah Stewart. Number one, you all start castrating people and don’t be knowing the full story on anything, and I don’t know the full story on that. Much love to Isaiah Stewart. I’m also not about to sit here and say I hope he get the help he needs. I got love for the young fella. He is who he is. Be who you be. Y’all figure it out,” stated the 4x NBA Champion in a recent episode of his podcast, The Draymond Green Show.

Draymond Green, who recently walked in the same shoes as Stewart, empathized with his situation. When asked about his thoughts on Stewart being suspended for only three games, he said, “I’m never in favor of people getting suspended and losing money, so you’re not going to get me to be like, ‘Oh man he should have got suspended for more games.’ Nope, that’s not who I am; it’s not how I roll I’m not in favor of anybody getting suspended and losing money. That’s how we feed our families.”

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the 22-year-old will likely lose out on $108,966 in total. The suspension will kick in once he has fully recovered from the preexisting ankle injury that has cost him his last nine games. Green understands this situation all too well since his suspensions burned a $26,16,997 hole in his pockets.
