“I’m not here to babysit you. I’m not here to follow you around.” On signing with the Memphis Grizzlies, Derrick Rose had made it clear what the dynamic was going to be between him and Ja Morant. The now-former hooper represented the Grizzlies for a short period, turning into a mentor-type personality for the 25-year-old point guard. Their bond only deepened off the court when Derrick Rose’s son, PJ Rose, joined one of Morant’s youth teams. Amidst all the advice and knowledge that the Rose may have passed down to his protégé, the latter seems to be under attack for most likely not adhering to one of those points.

Earlier today, Ja Morant got into a feud with a youth basketball coach. Touching base on the franchise’s 2-2 win record during the ongoing season, Coach Von took a shot at the hooper on X, stating “I can imagine with all the time spent with D. Rose. Ja got a lot of valuable advice concerning his body. If he feels like he can’t go tonight. I’m cool with that. Out of conference opponent. Guys are playing well. Let’s see if we can pull it out!”

The player himself didn’t choose to stay silent at this critique for long. After having concluded the Bulls game, which the Grizzlies lost, 126-123, Ja Morant reiterated, “I thought it was just i wasn’t hungry nomore or i haven’t taken dat superstar leap as a leader yet (thinking emoji) you confusing me von. make up your mind plz.” This tweet concluded with a crying and facepalming emoji that allowed the hooper to hammer a final nail into his ‘sarcastic’ comeback.

Ja Morant’s availability status for the Grizzlies’ regular season run seemed initially threatened after he rolled his ankle during the preseason debut against the Dallas Mavericks. After being diagnosed with a mild ankle sprain, his appearances were limited. Because of right thigh soreness, he also missed out on the recent Bulls-Grizzlies matchup. As a result, Morant didn’t appreciate being criticized regarding his absence, when he had a valid reason to be out. Plus, it doesn’t help that Coach Von has been critical of the player, when doing his analysis of the Memphis Grizzlies, for quite a while now.

The back and forth, however, didn’t just stop there. Von defended himself, posting, “You just proving my point with all this Twitter s—. Lock in man!!” Morant, in turn, came back with another alleged ‘sarcastic’ remark by writing, “I was just giving you more interactions on your post since you tweet a lot. a thank you would’ve meant a lot.” While it would be hard to determine which individual is in the right here, Morant is certainly not winning any favors with the social media users in the comments section.

One social media user found that there was no better way to take a shot at the 25-year-old than to criticize the Grizzlies’ recent performance. Even though Ja Morant himself was not playing, the commenter had a reason to be upset, as he stated, “How do you lose that at home from 20 points up Your boys took a hell of a beating.”

The Memphis squad initially did seem to hold the advantage at the FedExForum. They had a 10-point lead by the end of the 1st quarter and were up by 14 by halftime. But with Zach LaVine, Coby White, and Nikola Vucevic each scoring more than 20, it didn’t take long for the Bulls to catch up and then secure the win by a thin margin. Given that Desmond Bane took the bulk of the scoring responsibility from the Grizzlies side, one can presume that Ja Morant’s presence would’ve helped in defeating the Bulls.

Another social media user, going by the name of ‘Jaylen Wells Muse,’ came to the defense of Coach Von. According to him, Ja Morant going off against the instructor is the “saddest thing,” since he believes, “Von is one of the most reasonable and respectful Grizzlies fan I’ve interacted on here. He genuinely is here for just hoops and because he loves the Grizzlies and our best player just hopped on Twitter after a game to s— on him…we got the wrong priorities right now #GrindCity.”

Von personally replied to the comment, indicating that he appreciated the defense.

From what Coach Von has posted over the last couple of days, one can deduce that he is a big supporter of the Memphis Grizzlies. From praising Brandon Clarke to writing “Jaren got Moe in hell!” as a previous Grizzlies game was going on, no one can deny that he stands behind the team. In fact, he has often sent out his praises for Ja Morant, too.

One individual replied to the Morant-Rose tweet that Coach Von had put out earlier. Endorsing the same, since Ja Morant will no longer have the support of Rose, he wrote, “Facts I’m cool with this one this gone let us know where we at without him.”

Having been in the league for 15+ years before joining the Grizzlies, Derrick Rose had an abundance of experience. This, what many believed, would’ve helped, especially Ja Morant, from moving upwards on the table after being quite low for the last couple of years. Unfortunately, Rose announced his retirement from the NBA in late September. Now, once again, Morant and Co. are on their own.

Another social media user took a shot at Ja Morant for not being there during the Bulls-Grizzlies matchup. He reasoned, “Could’ve used a closer tonight considering smart went 0-11 but yo thigh was sore.” Not only 0-11 field goals, but Marcus Smart also went 0-8 from deep. Given that he was able to make 1-2 field throws, the 30-year-old was at least able to make 1 point in 25 minutes!

Overall, the reactions were dismissive towards Ja Morant’s attitude. Things are not so bad for the Grizzlies at the moment, and they maintain a 2-2 win record. Despite this, the only way for Ja to shut down his haters is to return and take the win percentage higher.
