It was only the first quarter of the New York Knicks vs the Cleveland Cavaliers, and early in their match-up with the Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson went down with a left leg/knee injury. The All-Star guard seemed to have hurt himself while attempting a jump shot. Brunson grabbed his leg and fell to the floor. He required assistance to get off the court and headed straight to the locker room.

Soon after the fall, the Knicks shared an update, and it’s not looking good for their superstar Brunson. They stated that Jalen Brunson has a sore left knee and is “questionable” to return.

Brunson’s injury is a significant blow to the shorthanded Knicks, who already have a dark cloud of injuries looming over them as they are missing key players like Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, and O.G. Anunoby due to various injuries. With this possible injury, hearts are broken of fans who saw the greatest revival ever under the leadership of the 27-year-old point guard.

By the time it was the third quarter, the New York Knicks further put out a statement to the effect that Jalen Brunson, who was earlier listed as “questionable”, has been completely ruled out for the game against the Cavs.

Supporting Cast Steps Up

The shorthanded New York Knicks (36-25) pulled off a surprising 107-98 dub over the Eastern Conference’s no.2 seed, the Cleveland Cavaliers (38-23). Despite missing their leading scorer, All-Star Jalen Brunson (averaging a career-high 27.7 points per game), the Knicks found a way to win, thanks to a triple-double performance from Josh Hart along with the rest of the team.

Hart, had a night for the ages, putting up 13 points, 19 rebounds (tying his career high), and 10 assists for his third triple-double of the season. This historic feat places him amongst an elite group, becoming just the 6th Knick player ever to achieve three triple-doubles in a single season, joining legends like Walt Frazier.

Donte DiVincenzo and Bojan Bogdanovic provided heavy contributions, scoring 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, and 20 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists, respectively. Their combined efforts along with the rest of the playing  Knicks effectively offset the absences of both Brunson and Julius Randle.

While the Cavaliers, missing their superstar Donovan Mitchell, put up a solid effort, the Knicks’ defense, led by Hart’s 19 rebounds and RJ Barrett’s 2 steals, proved too much to overcome. This win breaks a potential two-game losing streak for the Knicks and keeps them firmly in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race.

The Knicks’ fans will hope for a swift recovery for Brunson, whose presence will be crucial as they run through the remaining games of the season. The question remains: will we see Brunson return for the showdown against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday or will the team pull another dub out without their star player? Comment your thoughts below!
