Damian Lillard’s desire to leave the Portland Trail Blazers has sent the NBA into a frenzy. At this point, it is no breaking news that he wants only the Miami Heat. However, both franchises are approaching this carefully. There are murmurs that the Blazers may be aiming for a different trade route. They want a ton of draft picks to build for the future. They want a huge return for a talent like Lillard, who can still put up more than 30 points a game and is arguably a top-two PG.
The Heat is also moving forward cautiously, perhaps avoiding a situation where they have to trade their emerging star Tyler Herro. In this wake, the Boston Celtics have emerged as a contender. Can they soak in Lillard’s hefty contract and give the Blazers what they want?

Damian Lillard trade saga full of twists and turns
At this point, there are rumors that even Toronto Raptors are emerging as the suitors. Michael Grange of Sportsnet, “By all accounts, the Raptors seem at least reasonably confident they can maneuver their way to the front of the line, past the Miami Heat”.
But for BetOnline, the Boston Celtics are the favorite to land the amazing scorer, over both the Heat and the Raptors. Now, The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor has also put the Celts as the best landing spot for the disgruntled guard. For O’Connor, the assortment of draft picks is a significant allure for the Rip City.

However, there are numerous concerns and skepticism about all these claims. What about Lillard’s wish? Will he want to play alongside Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum? It will be his first time playing alongside two megastars. Apart from that, the defense of The C’s can ease the burden on him. In fact, he will become even more lethal playing alongside these two. The only concern is that Tatum likes to have a ball in his hands.

Dame has played as an ace scorer and as the best ball-handler among the three, he’ll still like to run things. However, it isn’t he who has the power to work a trade. What if Lillard’s wishes keep getting ignored?

Will Lillard get his wish?
A few days ago, Trail Blazers’ insider, Eric Brandt, revealed how Cronin and co shunned the sharpshooter. On his Blazers Uprise pod with Torey Jones, he revealed, ”Dame requested a trade [in June 26th meeting w/ Cronin]. They agreed to keep it private. Dame gave him a list of teams, then later found out Cronin wasn’t going to uphold his end of the deal. And said he didn’t care what his list was, and he’d trade him to whatever team offered the most”.
It means that the team didn’t honor the initial request and the partnership can’t deteriorate enough. Brandt also declared that he feels that the Franchise abandoned the Guard who gave them top-notch production for a decade.
