In a recent wave of layoffs at ESPN, 20 talented on-air personalities were sacked. Among them were the likes of former NBA Most Improved Player, Jalen Rose and former head coach, Jeff Van Gundy. The move made many believe that no one is safe at the broadcasting house. And that includes a veteran like Stephen A Smith.

NBA fans have grown to be unaccustomed with basketball on ESPN without Stephen A Smith. A 20 year veteran with the company, Smith has made an incredible name for himself also becoming one of the most popular faces on television during the course. However, when a man of Smith’s stature is placed at the edge of replacement, things might seriously be unsettling at ESPN.

The recent wave of layoffs made several top analysts question their position with the company. Exceptional talents such as Jalen Rose, Max Kellerman and Jeff Van Gundy who have served ESPN as analysts for several years were also not spared the axe.

After this incident, Smith took his podcast to say goodbye to his colleagues. “They deserved better from, than the times we’re living in,” said Smith.

ESPN’s actions may have disappointed many, including Smith, but Jeff Van Gundy is not taking this as a setback. He has his sights set on returning to the NBA and this is how.

Jeff Van Gundy is not going anywhere

Van Gundy was a basketball analyst with ESPN for 16 years. Before that, he was a reputed coach with the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets. He boasts of 11 seasons in that position.

The 61-year-old also has a Finals run with the New York Knicks in 1999 under his belt. With a brilliant resume in his arsenal, it is reported that Van Gundy is looking to make a return to coaching duties.

Van Gundy has become a millionaire over the years, due in most part, to his ESPN role. “Jeff Van Gundy is a stunner. He was making millions,” a source told FOS.

However, after the company terminated the veteran analyst, he eyes on returning to the NBA through coaching duties. Due to his excellent coaching resume, teams would be interested in exploring the idea of him being at the helm of their franchise.
