The Phoenix Suns are first few games onto the most challenging 10-game stretch. While they managed to emerge victorious against the Denver Nuggets, their recent game saw a 128-103 blowout. As Josh Giddy scored a team-high of 23 points, a total of 7 players notched double-digit points for OKC. On the other hand, as Kevin Durant posted 26 points on 10-17 shooting, Devin Booker failed to attempt 10 shots from the floor. Moreover, the Suns’ struggle came through the inefficiency of Bradley Beal and Grayson Allen, leaving them short-handed during crucial moments of the game.

The Suns now remain as the 7th seed in the West, with their playoff aspirations hanging in balance. Talking about the Suns’ inconsistent outputs, Kevin Durant couldn’t find the words to signify certain subtleties to their approach. Ultimately, making terms with the past, KD says, “We got 8 more games left. Hopefully, we get an opportunity to play in the postseason. Take it a game at a time.”

Suns, through their last 10 games, are slated to face each game against a team with better season record. Making their matters worse is that teams, in hopes of securing a playoff berth, are still playing their best players. It is the toughest season ending stretch for a team since 2015-16 Memphis Grizzlies, who only won 1 of the 10 games.

With 2 contests in the books (1-1), the Suns will pose their season chances against Cleveland Cavaliers, and Sacramento Kings once. Moreover, they will face Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Pelicans twice.

Once lauded as the most talented backcourt in the NBA, the stretch marks a true test of their caliber. At the end of the season, the Suns need to emerge ahead of the 7th spot. This way, they can end the the tiring stretch early by skipping the Play-ins.

The Suns need to work around Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant might be the only player embarking on the treacherous run fearlessly. Throughout the initial 2 games, Durant posts 28 points and 9.5 rebounds; an elevation from his near 27 points and 6.7 rebounds on the season. Moreover, he has managed to shoot the ball on 59% clip despite the defenses constantly closing out on him.

On the other hand, Booker’s output has shrunk to 15.5 points from 27 points per game. However, his rebounding and assists remain similar. Booker, who did not put up enough shots against a Shai-Gilgeous Alexander-less OKC, needs to bring his magical shooting touch on the floor each night.

Same goes for Beal. The shooting guard, despite several injury jabs and inconsistent performances, averages 17.7 points on near 50% shooting this season. However, he has only garnered 25 points across the two games, shooting less than 38% from the field.
