However, the Slim Reaper attributes most of his success to his mother, Wanda. In his words, she is “the real MVP.”

More recently, after the Phoenix Suns‘ first regular season victory over the Golden State Warriors, an adorable photo of KD’s mother looking at him is going viral. The simple image paints a picture of sacrifice and perseverance. It tells the story of the makings of NBA greatness. Here’s a look at the life of Wanda Durant.

At the age of 21, her husband abandoned Wanda with two children, Kevin and Anthony. In his MVP speech in 2013, KD alluded to her struggles. “The odds were stacked against us. Single parent with two boys by the time you were 21 years old,” said the former NBA champion.


Furthermore, he elaborated on his mom’s contributions, “We weren’t supposed to be here. You made us believe. You kept us off the street, put clothes on our backs, food on the table. When you didn’t eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us.” Despite the unlikelihood of success, Wanda gave her children “time”, “love” and her “presence”.

In a recent photo shared on Twitter, we can see Wanda looking at KD with intense pride. The Suns won the game by 4 points 104-108. The Post captioned, “Great photo of a proud parent! KD is a 35-year-old 13 x NBA All-Star with 2 championships and a MVP award and his Mom is looking at him like it’s his first post-game interview.”

Kevin Durant scored 18 points, 3 assists and a block. Although the game was really close, Devin Booker ensured a clutch victory for Kevin Durant over the Dubs on their home turf. However, it is just the first game of the regular season and there is a long road ahead.
