Kevin Durant is one of the most polarizing figures in the modern NBA. Although Durant’s extraordinary basketball skills are indisputable, his inclination to change teams and failure to secure a championship since departing from the Bay Area has resulted in disdain from various segments of fans. One such fanbase is the Brooklyn Nets. KD played for the Nets from 2020 to 2023, but could never manage to win a title, despite having the likes of Kyrie Irving and James Harden.

Recently, KD made a return to the Nets’ Barclays Center while playing for the Suns. Before the game, KD said that he didn’t expect a tribute video from the Nets, but the Nets gave him one, anyway. This didn’t go down well with a fan, who voiced his displeasure through social media.

He wrote, “Shouldn’t have gotten one..what did he do for the franchise?! Durant has done nothing since he jumped on the Warriors wagon and won… Michal Jordan just threw up a little reading this post.” To which KD replied back by saying, “Mj not reading this hatin a** post my boy.”

While Durant couldn’t win a title with the Nets, the amount of hate he receives is unprecedented for a player of his stature. At this point in his career, Durant’s reputation precedes him and many fans just overlook the number of accolades and trophies KD has actually won in his illustrious career.

However, hate won’t stop coming his way until and unless he proves his skeptics wrong by winning a title with a team other than the Warriors. This season could be the optimal chance for the Phoenix Suns to clinch a championship, boasting talents like Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. However, does the team genuinely stand a chance at securing the title?

Can the Suns finally win an NBA title?

The Phoenix Suns have never managed to win an NBA title in their 56-year history. They hold the dubious record of the oldest NBA franchise to never win a title. However, new owner Mat Ishiba has poured millions of dollars into the franchise so that the Suns can win their first NBA title.

The Suns have constructed one of the costliest assembled rosters in the league. Players like KD, Booker and Beal are all near the top for highest earning NBA players. However, the Suns’ hierarchy’s insistence of acquiring superstars has meant that the Suns’ lack quality bench options, which could be detrimental to their title aspirations. While a deep postseason run could be on the cards, a title win for the Suns looks extremely improbable. Can the Suns win the 2024 NBA title? Let us know in the comments below!
