Klay Thompson has truly come alive for all the wrong reasons, heading into the off-season. The Warriors superstar, who had already left the Dubs Nation in disbelief, asked for more trouble with another social media move. Amid the rumors of him leaving the Bay Area, he unfollowed the Dubs’ official IG handle, causing a stir in the NBA world. Now, the 34-year-old invited more trouble with a surprise statement for Chennedy Carter.

China Klay took to his Instagram and shared a picture of the Chicago Sky guard on a story and also wrote, “I appreciate you @chennedycarter Keep going.” Notably, Thompson reshared the picture from her latest story in which the 25-year-old was taking a jumper. That had the caption “Thank you God.” So, let’s get things straight. While Klay Thompson didn’t go wrong in appreciating a rising star he went wrong with the timing of the appreciation. Apart from the NBA Finals and trade rumors, one of the important talking points in the hoops nation is about Caitlin Clark.

The WNBA rookie has had a rough start to her career, literally taking blows on the court. Many across the leagues spoke for Clark and called out the unprecedented on-court aggression on the rookie. But, the situation blew out of proportion when Chennedy Carter came into the picture. It became a Carter vs Clark affair after the Sky guard voluntarily knocked down the rookie on the court. The officials even slapped her with a flagrant foul 1. But neither Carter nor her teammates showed remorse as she had “no regrets”.

“I love the hate more than the love, what don’t y’all understand. I’d rather you hate me than love me and I mean that on my dead aunt,” Carter had written on social media while everyone was waiting for her answer. It eventually increased the public’s anger on her, making herself the ‘public enemy #1’. Amid this controversial situation, Thompson decided to show his support to Chennedy Carter out of the blue. It did nothing but directly involve him in the controversy.

What switched on the ‘villain’ in Klay Thompson?

In the last few years, the Dubs’ shooting legend Thompson had a low-key profile. Stephen Curry, evenly famously described him as the “quietest guy” and also added, “We don’t get to the outside of practice and games but you got your dog,” during his MVP acceptance speech in 2015. Rightly so, Klay barely got engaged in any sort of trouble outside of basketball. But, ever since he played his game for the Dubs against the Sacramento Kings in the Play-in Tournament knockout game, it seems to have strongly impacted the star.

Thompson recorded 0-10 FG in that game, leaving the Warriors to end their campaign with a disappointment. Following that, the fans only remembered him from that particular game. And, they reminded him every day, commenting on it under almost every social media post related to the NBA. Thompson once tried to respond to it, saying, “hey young fella, I’m rooting for you. Eat your greens and get proper sleep nightly and you will make the NBA one day thru hard work and perseverance.” Even though he sounded supportive, it seemed to be loaded with sarcasm. Will the Warriors retain Klay Thompson? Let us know in the comments.
