With the NBA regular season coming to a close within the next few days, a major question will have an answer soon: Who will be declared the MVP of the 2023-24 season? As various reporters and sportswriters prepare to submit their ballots next week, speculation brews on who will take the prestigious title home. For quite some time, a name that has been sticking out from the small list of potential contenders is that of Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic. Many of his teammates repeated the same, recently displaying their vote of confidence for the world!

After the recent game against the Miami Heat, renowned shooting guard Kyrie Irving sat down for a presser. He was asked by a media member about how, before the matchup, various Mavericks players were seen wearing a T-shirt that read ‘Pravi MVP’. ‘Pravi’ is ‘Real’ in Doncic’s native language. Irving referred to the tribute as a “statement”, claiming that Doncic’s performance helped the roster feel that their current season would be a good one.

“I think that’s a true sign of MVP, of coming into a season and really initiating himself into that leadership role and doing it on both ends of the floor,” said Irving.

“His stats speak for themselves, he’s first in a lot of different categories. He’s held the team up when I wasn’t able to be in the lineup and I was injured. So, there are a lot of factors that should attribute to his MVP case”.

Luka Doncic, having an MVP to his name, has been overlooked for many years now. The same, however, has become much harder to ignore in light of his amazing stats. Unfortunately, Doncic is not without some tough competition.

How does Luka Doncic fare amongst the other MVP contenders?

With his seasonal average of 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists, the Dallas Mavericks star has made a compelling argument on why he should be the one to take the MVP title home. When compared to his rivals, however, that argument starts to slowly lose its high ground. According to various reports, the current favorite to win the prestigious accolade is Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic.

Having already won the same during two consecutive years, Jokic has once again made a case for himself by securing an average score of 26.6 points, 12.4 rebounds and 9.0 assists this season. He recorded 25 triple-doubles (Doncic with 21) and he recently surpassed Carmelo Anthony as the 3 highest All-Time Scorer from the Denver Nuggets.

Similarly to Doncic, the Serbian player has found support in his teammates, with Christian Braun going as far as to say, “He’s the best player in the world. There’s no question about that”.

Another player who has joined the same competition as Doncic and Jokic is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Serving as the point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, he has helped his team reach a high standing after securing an average of 30.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.2 assists.

Looking at the recent success of the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum, who has scored 27 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.9 assists, may end up rising over all others if his team takes home the championship ring.
