Injuries still continue to affect the Lakers as they hosted Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs on Wednesday night. Along with LeBron James and Gabe Vincent, LA is also down Austin Reaves for the second game in a row. The good news is Luka Doncic is back after two days of rest and he’s backed up by Deandre Ayton and Jake Laravia. Wemby didn’t have Carter Bryant but has a well-balanced team around him. After a close back-and-forth, with both teams holding a lead a couple of times, the Lakers finally won 118-116.

Lakers vs Spurs: game summary and key moments
That LeBron James news probably turned up the mood in the Lakers locker room to extend their winning streak to five games. They struggled in the first half as Victor Wembanyama proved too overwhelming. When they were trailing 20-10 in the first quarter, it felt near hopeless against the formerly 5-1 Spurs.

It was close at halftime but the Lakers again fell 94-82 in the third quarter. The trend continued to the fourth. With less than 14 seconds left on the clock, LA turned it around and were back up 118-114. The Spurs came close but didn’t close the gap. It’s not among the fun nailbiters in recent times, it looked like LA was going to let the second half go as usual, but fans accepted the win nonetheless.
The biggest cliffhanger happened with less than two seconds on the clock. Kelly Olynyk brought the Spurs within two. Marcus Smart had a turnover and Jake LaRavia fouled Julian Champagnie. The Lakers got lucky when Champagnie missed both free throws.
While no 40-point game from Luka Doncic, he had a game-high 35 points. It would probably be Rui Hachimura who impressed the most. He was on the Wemby assignement and held the potential DPOY to 19 points. Marcus Smart was not having his best shooting night but he had a mighty effort in drawing fouls from Wemby.

Deandre Ayton also won the center matchup. With 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal.
The Lakers have to keep this momentum going on Saturday when they meet the Hawks. The Spurs take on Kevin Durant and the Rockets tomorrow.
