The Phoenix Suns are once again back in form with the return of their franchise leader, Devin Booker, who helped the team clinch its third consecutive win against the Utah Jazz. The Suns swept the Jazz to a 140-137 double-overtime win on the road. However, their seventh win came with a controversial ending.

The credit for the controversial win, however, goes to Kevin Durant, who dropped 3-pointers when they were most needed. KD played a crucial role in orchestrating a win over the Jazz, dropping 39 points in 40 minutes of playing time. Although the Suns secured the victory, it was not without some on-court drama, which seems to be a trend this season.

Kevin Durant brings forth his inner Kanye West

The above-mentioned controversial moment came towards the end of the gameplay. As the Jazz’s franchise cornerstone, Lauri Markkanen attempted a shot from downtown with 0.9 seconds left on the court, KD jumped in to block the shot. However, in the process, he made contact with Lauri.

As a result, the refs called a foul. But then, on the second review, the officials overturned the original foul call after Frank Vogel challenged the initial claim. This left many Jazz supporters dissatisfied. One of them was The Salt Lake Tribune writer Andy Larsen, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his discontent. Andy wrote, “No chance that Markkanen call on Durant goes against him if the names on the back of the jerseys are reversed.”?

His comment did not go unnoticed by The Slim Reaper, who pulled out a classic Kanye West reply to shut down the haters. KD responded, “I guess we?ll never know.” For those who are unfamiliar, he was imitating Kanye’s one-liner after his album College Dropout won the Grammy for the best rap album of the year against all odds.

The reasoning behind the foul reversal

Had the decision not been reversed, Markkanen would be headed to the charity stripe with a chance to send the game to triple overtime. Markkanen exclaimed after the game, “I think he got ball, but he hit my left arm. That?s what I thought that they called the foul on.”

However, Crew Chief Zach Zarba cleared the doubts by offering his perspective on the foul reversal. “There was clear and conclusive evidence that Durant made legal contact to the basketball blocking the shot first. That?s why the challenge was ruled successful,” said Zarba.
