When Chris Paul joined the Los Angeles Clippers over the summer as a free agent, many thought that the historic franchise would go above and beyond to give the 40-year-old the farewell he deserved. However, in a surprise turn of events, the Clippers parted ways with Paul, even before the season reached its mid-point. But LeBron James’ close confidant and longtime agent, Rich Paul, thinks this abrupt exit could have been avoided.

The CEO of Klutch Sports believes that if he were representing the Point God, he would’ve made sure that the alleged communication issues between him and the Clippers never arose.

“If I represented Chris and I was talking to the Clippers about him joining the team, the first thing that you’re asking is ‘what type of role is this?’ Because I need to be able to let him know,” Paul said while speaking to Max Kellerman. “If they say, we want him to play 12 to 15 minutes a game, blah blah blah, you know what his jacket looks like; you already know what his jacket looks like.”

“So coming in, if you have any discourse on what his paperwork says when he comes into that locker room, then let’s talk about this now so I can be able to prep my client and say, ‘Hey, we know who you are. We know what you’re used to doing, but this ain’t the place for that.’ So they want you to play 12 to 15 minutes a game, or you’re not going to play at all,” Paul further emphasized.

While Rich Paul refrained from taking sides in this ugly situation between the franchise and the player, he did suggest that if the roles were established during signing, everything would’ve been much smoother. The owner of Klutch Sports further used the signing of Cory Joseph for the Cleveland Cavaliers as an example to further prove his point.

Despite denials from head coach Tyronn Lue and team president Lawrence Frank, it was seemingly Paul’s competitive nature and habit of holding teammates accountable that led to his exit from Los Angeles. Even though Rich Paul claims he could’ve helped both parties avoid this unfortunate split, the truth is what’s done is done, and now Chris Paul needs to find a new team for his final season.

The Denver Nuggets emerge as a top landing spot for Chris Paul

While Chris Paul’s reunion with the Los Angeles Clippers might not have lasted very long, he cannot stay put. The veteran superstar, who has announced his retirement after 21 seasons in the league, needs to find a new home before the trade deadline, and the Denver Nuggets could be that place. This season, the Nuggets have been pretty strong, thanks to their newly added depth.

During the offseason, Denver acquired the likes of Jonas Valanciunas, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Bruce Brown, all of whom have given the team some much-needed backup. However, they could still use an upgrade at the point guard position behind Jamal Murray, and who better than Chris Paul, one of the best point guards of this generation.

While the Point God might not be the player he used to be, he could certainly provide some valuable addition to the Nuggets. In fact, according to Bailey Bassett of ClutchSports, Denver could give up Zeke Nnaji and a second-round pick in exchange for Kris Dunn and Chris Paul, which would be a win-win situation for them and Paul

That’s because they’ll get two solid rotational players without giving up much. Meanwhile, CP3 could finish his farewell tour in the NBA, competing for a title alongside Nikola Jokic and Co. Now, will Denver be willing to execute this move before the February trade deadline? That’s something we’ll have to keep a close eye on in the coming weeks.
