LeBron James, at 39 years old, continues to defy age and dominate the NBA, averaging 25.7 points per game in the 2023-24 season. This was the 13th-highest ppg stat among over 500 NBA players.  His success isn’t just about workouts—it’s about the strategic diet he follows, says his trainer Mike Mancias. Mancias, who’s worked with James for over 20 years, revealed how the NBA star maintains his athletic physique, blending a protein-rich diet with a surprising love for pancakes.

In an appearance on the ‘High Performance’ show, Mike Mancias, LeBron’s Chief Human Performance Advisor for over two decades, shared insights into the superstar’s diet. Mancias explained that maintaining James’ elite performance level requires not just exercise but a tailored nutritional plan designed to provide energy for intense nightly games.

“For someone like LJ, it’s a heavy breakfast during the season. It’s a heavy breakfast because he’s going to need those calories come 7 o’clock-8 o’clock at night. And his Chef does an amazing job, she’s wonderful,” Mancias said. He noted that LeBron’s diet is high in protein, with lots of eggs, and turkey bacon. “Don’t be afraid to sprinkle in a couple, you know, small pancakes in there as well. You need those carbohydrates and you need to feel good about what you’re eating. Reward yourself, because you just had 8 to 10 hours of sleep, you’re well hydrated, you’ve worked out the night before, and you know you’re going to burn that, that night as well, because you’re about to play 40 minutes a night,” Mancias added.

LeBron’s love for pancakes isn’t new. In a 2014 interview with Rachel Nichols, he confessed that during a strict 67-day diet, pancakes were what he missed the most. The player even agreed that he would go to bed dreaming of pancakes that he could not have “all the time.” His disciplined yet indulgent approach shows how balance is key to maintaining his elite physique.

Salmon, pasta, peanut butter – What is included in LeBron James’ diet plan?

Mike Mancias helped provide an insight into the player’s breakfast plan. However, that is one part of the day. In a 2018 appearance on ‘The Tim Ferris Show,’ King James himself revealed what he consumes during game day.

During the 67-day dieting period highlighted above, LeBron would take up meals like a lobster salad with asparagus and mango chutney, replacing the arugula salad when he didn’t want to eat that. In an interview with ESPN, the player revealed that he consumes wine “pretty much every day.” For Cheat Day, he would most likely order a pizza. To be more specific, he would order a ‘Blaze Pizza’, the brand with which the 20x NBA All-Star has been tied up for some time.
