Bam Adebayo, what have you done! The Miami Heat star blasted through history, becoming the player with the second-most points scored in an NBA game. Adebayo surpassed the late great Kobe Bryant’s previously set 81-point threshold tonight. The Heat star would have been one of the last people I imagined breaking this record, if anybody at all. And his peers are just as shocked.

Cleveland Cavaliers Donovan Mitchell was one of them. The offensive savant is among the few players to have 70 points in a single game. He also shares a close bond with Adebayo. Hence, his reaction made perfect sense. “Chill Out @Bam1of1,” wrote Mitchell.
Bam Adebayo scored 31 in the first quarter. That in itself hadn’t been done in decades. But this evening, the Heat’s resilient defensive anchor was feeling himself. His girlfriend, A’ja Wilson, was out of her seat, celebrating Adebayo’s brilliance. Celtics legend Paul Pierce just wrote “Bam” with salute emojis. Heat icon Udonis Haslem followed suit.
BAM BAM BAM 💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

You couldn’t write anything elaborate. The entire community is still trying to comprehend what we’ve witnessed. The two-time Olympic gold medalist hit seven triples and made 36 free throws on this historic night. Somebody who may have known such brutality exists in the Heat star could be LeBron James.
He did claim to know about Kobe Bryant scoring 81 before it happened. “BAM BAM BAM,” the Akron Hammer wrote on X to celebrate his Olympic teammates’ almighty performance. This night will forever be immortalized in the annals of NBA history. In every way, Bryant’s 81 against the Raptors seemed to be a feat that would never be done again. Yet, Bam Adebayo stepped in and made the most of his night.
“That was dope watching @Bam1of1 shoot his way into history…. Congrats young fella,” Vince Carter wrote, reacting to the game. It’s going to take a while to process. Media outlets have something to talk about for days. And for modern-day stars, a new benchmark has been set.
Adebayo just proved that anything can happen in the NBA.
The Miami Heat needed Bam Adebayo to go mental
I know it was only the Washington Wizards and the Heat that have been one of the most in-form teams over the past week. However, they didn’t have their glittering cast tonight. Three of their starters were out. In short, for the Heat to win, they needed Bam Adebayo to step it up.
As the captain, that’s what he did. Dwyane Wade, who’s been in his corner as a Heat legend, couldn’t move past his valiant performance. “83 for CAP,” he wrote on X, also expressing that his milestone was sufficient to erase any doubts around his leadership.
I agree, it wasn’t the prettiest game fans have watched. Some were upset with the Heat force feeding the ball to Bam Adebayo despite having a sizeable lead. But why wouldn’t they? It’s not every day you see the Heat star chasing records and individual glory. This was a chance to cement his name and legacy in the league forever. Any other player would have wanted to do the same.
The three-time All-Star deserves a salute from the entire NBA community. He gave the NBA an unforgettable night. And at the end of the day, it’s the story that matters. Adebayo just did the unthinkable. Personally, that’s enough to show appreciation to the five-time All-Defensive star who nailed his role with the Heat’s primary scorers missing.
