The modern NBA media landscape could be regarded as a melting pot of varied opinions and perspectives. However, every now and then, things can get a bit wild with some pretty outlandish takes. Former NBA star and current ESPN analyst JJ Redick was on the receiving end of one of the most outrageous opinions you will hear this year.
Recently, former ESPN employee Colin Cowherd took exception to JJ Redick’s fashion choice. During the latest episode of the Herd, Colin criticized JJ Redick for wearing his cap backwards. He stated that Redick “looks like a guy that’s going to move my couch.” He also added that Redick’s look is bad for his NBA coaching aspirations. This outlandish take caught JJ Redick’s eyes, who replied by using just one word, “LOL.”
He really doesn’t like your 🧢 JJ!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I wonder if these two are ok 👇🏾. They have damn good jobs I believe pic.twitter.com/8wzleQQWEb

Cowherd’s remarks even caught LeBron James’ attention, who co-hosts Mind the Game podcast with JJ Redick. He used Jason Kidd as an example to prove Cowherd’s hypothesis wrong. Along with the pictures, LeBron also wrote, “He really doesn’t like your cap JJ!! I wonder if these two are ok. They have damn good jobs I believe.”
While JJ Redick might find these extreme opinions surprising, LeBron James has been dealing with them throughout his career. LeBron, coming to Redick’s defense, just goes on to show the close bond the two have developed. This certainly bodes well for JJ’s aspiration of coaching in the NBA. He has been heavily linked to the vacant head coaching gig in LA.

Could JJ Redick become the head coach of the Lakers?
Following a topsy-turvy season, which ultimately ended in disappointment, the Lakers’ hierarchy decided to fire Darvin Ham. During his two season stint as the head coach, Ham managed to win 90 out of 164 games. He also guided the Lakers to the Western Conference Finals last season and the inaugural in-season tournament. However, the Lakers now must look to the future.
Several coaches are in the fray for the head coaching gig, and the Lakers’ search will commence soon. Candidates like Mike Budenholzer, Kenny Atkinson, JJ Redick, and potentially Ty Lue are all under consideration. Despite the coaching talent on offer, one name stands out. JJ Redick has garnered a reputation for being tactically sound, as evidenced by his tactics-heavy podcast with LeBron James, Mind the Game.

Despite this, JJ Redick is a relative novice when it comes to coaching in the NBA. He hasn’t coached in the NBA until now. If the Lakers select him, it would be a huge gamble. But considering his close ties with LeBron, JJ Redick remains a left field option. However, according to several experts, the ideal candidate to replace Ham remains Clippers’ HC, Ty Lue.
