The NBA All-Star weekend took place almost two weeks ago, grouping the best of the best for a night of competition and entertainment. While the event in itself didn’t last as long as some people hoped, more and more updates about what took place behind the scenes continue to drop. The latest one, involving Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, captured the player providing an update involving his 19-year-old son Bronny.

The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Spectrum SportsNet recently uploaded a video. It featured the moment when the players representing the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference during the All-Star game were being introduced by the hosts of the evening. Along with Boston legend Larry Bird and former Pacers star Reggie Miller, the host lineup also included Milwaukee Bucks legend and 12x All-Star Oscar Robertson.

When LeBron James was introduced during the ceremony, he was seen walking to the center of the court and giving a heartfelt hug to Robertson. The player’s hot mic captured him saying “Love you man” to the 85-year-old legend during the embrace. Robertson also took the moment to express kindness to the Lakers star by asking, “How’s your son doing?”. LeBron didn’t have to think for long before replying, “He’s doing wonderful, he’s doing a lot better”.

Oscar Robertson’s question may have pertained to Bronny’s recovery after the young player suffered a cardiac arrest back in July 2023 during a USC practice session. Even though he was discharged after two days of hospitalization, it took him until December to recover and make a return to the basketball court. LeBron was reportedly by his son’s side throughout the ordeal, often providing updates on social media about his latest step in the journey to recovery. By assuring Robertson that Bronny is back to “doing what he is mostly doing”, he gave the assurance that the health scare that gripped his son almost 7 months ago is not that big of a concern now.

It was barely a few days ago when NBA Mock Drafts started to make the rounds of the internet, with many of them not even considering Bronny for consideration. Given that the player has barely managed to average 5.7 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.9 rebounds during his ongoing career with USC, the opinion is something that deserves a degree of merit. LeBron, however, was not one to stay silent while his son was being judged on the online platform. In a now-deleted post, the 39-year-old was seen urging social media users to “let the kid be a kid and enjoy college basketball”. He also highlighted that “Mock Drafts doesn’t matter one bit” and that it is his son’s work that will determine his standing amongst the other basketball prospects.
