The 2023-24 NBA regular season has reached an exciting climax, with most of the playoff spot up for grabs. The race for the playoffs is particularly intriguing in the Western Conference, as eight teams battle it out for 5 playoff berths. Of course, the Los Angeles Lakers are in the thick of the action. The Lakers’ recent five-game winning streak has propelled them into contention for a guaranteed playoff spot. Their stellar recent performances have given the Lakers’ faithful something to cheer about.

Moreover, the Athletics’ Shams Charania has provided another positive update regarding Gabe Vincent’s injury. According to Shams Charania, “Lakers guard Gabe Vincent is scheduled to join team during current road trip and is expected to be available to play vs. the Nets on Sunday barring setback.” Gabe Vincent has suited up for the Lakers since 20th December because of a knee surgery. Vincent’s shooting prowess from behind the arc could provide a massive boost to the Lakers, especially considering their struggles with three-point shooting.

Although Lakers fans may rejoice at Gabe Vincent’s comeback, concerns over Anthony Davis’ injury could overshadow their excitement. Reports suggest that AD suffered a left knee hyperextension versus the Milwaukee Bucks. Anthony Davis missed the Lakers’ last match against the Memphis Grizzlies due to a knee injury. Despite Davis’ absence, the Lakers came out on top against the Grizzlies, winning the game by a scoreline of 136-124.

LeBron James played a pivotal role in the victory, recording 23 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists during the game. However, Rui Hachimura stole the show with his 32 points and 10 rebound performance. With less than 10 regular season games remaining, the Lakers would massively depend on LeBron and Hachimura if AD misses more games.

Can the Los Angeles Lakers cope with Anthony Davis’ injury?

In recent weeks, the Los Angeles Lakers have become increasingly dependent on AD in LeBron’s absence. The Lakers have won six out of the ten games that LeBron has missed. Anthony Davis’ brilliance was on full display during the Lakers’ incredible double overtime win over the Bucks. AD scored 34 points and grabbed 23 boards in the game. Moreover, he played 52 minutes, the most by a Laker since Kobe Bryant did it back in 2012.

While Anthony Davis’ injury doesn’t appear to be severe, his potential absence from a few games could significantly impact the Lakers due to his importance to the team. Players like Rui Hachimura and Jaxson Hayes would have to step up in AD’s absence. However, the Lakers have one of the easiest remaining set of fixtures and that could work in their favor.
