Three ball brothers playing in the NBA together couldn’t happen as LaVar Ball’s middle son remained undrafted in the NBA. He expressed disappointment, but the reason had more to do with just not seeing his only son not in the league. He strongly believes that his trio would have created the most dynamic team. But it wasn’t meant to be despite Kobe Bryant throwing his weight behind one Ball brother.

Among the three brothers, Lonzo Ball was selected as the second overall pick in 2017 by the LA Lakers. The youngest sibling LaMelo Ball was the third overall selected by the Hornets in 2020. But much to LaVar’s dismay, his middle son came closer to getting selected by the Lakers in 2018 but went undrafted. The word had it that Black Mamba himself wanted LiAngelo on the team, but the oblivious father didn’t know.

In an interview with Vlad TV, LaVar talked about his disappointment with LiAngelo going undrafted. The host of the show surprised LaVar by revealing that Kobe wanted his middle son in the Lakers. “Did he? Hold on a second,” the father responded. “The boy can shoot the lights out. I didn’t know.”

In the same interview, LaVar also declared that “Gelo is better than Melo”. Melo, notably, is the former rookie of the year.

The three-star recruit Gelo was the reserve shooting guard for the UCLA college team. However, he was suspended for creating mischief and that had LaVar take him to the Lithuanian basketball scene, fearing a lengthy break.

Gelo’s dream in the NBA might be over after a final blow when the Hornets waived Ball ahead of the 2022-23 season. But the father whose tiff with Warriors coach Steve Kerr is quite notorious is watching his son’s back.

The host further nudged LaVar if he would be cool with having another ball brother in the team together. Aware of the dynamics of the Ball brothers playing together, the father thought that it would have created a powerful on-court dynamic team. The “chemistry would have been so good,” he said.

If Kobe was up for it, then that was the winning deal. LaVar is aware of what Lenzo and Li Angelo can do together. He stated that Gelo can score easy 30-40 points playing alongside Melo, describing Gelo as Melo’s right wingman for years.
