The verdict is out on LeBron James’ 2023–24 season, shooting up a barrage of uncertainties for the Los Angeles Lakers. While some of those questions can come as the next season goes on, fans are expecting LeBron James and Bronny James to materialize on their hardwood possibilities soon. According to the Athletic, the Lakers are “open” to the idea of drafting Bronny with their 17th overall pick in coming drafts. However, it is easier to speculate since the Pelicans control the Lakers’ first-round pick.

Nevertheless, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, when summarizing his conversation with Rich Paul, said that “the idea of them playing together is not a priority, it’s not foremost. At least any longer in LeBron James’ mind.”

Due to the events that unfolded prior to Bronny’s draft declaration, Woj claims that Rich wants to integrate Bronny James into a system that could efficiently develop Bronny; especially alongside his limitations on the court after last year’s cardiac episode. Furthermore, Adrian states, “If he does go in the draft, he very likely would spend the next year in the G-League.”

Talking about the Lakers’ potential #17 pick in the 2024 NBA drafts, the insider believes the franchise would use it “probably for a big trade.” Moreover, while the Lakers also have a 55th pick, Adrian cites that Bronny James “could very well be gone by then,” ultimately declaring that the Lakers might not be able to unite LeBron James and Bronny on the court.

With that, Adrian shuns away any possibility of Bronny and LeBron wearing the purple and gold “organically,” denting Rich Paul’s desire for a smooth team-up.

LeBron James’ Lakers’ decision does not depend on Bronny

It is natural to assume the Bron, in case of Bronny’s induction on a team beside LA, will look forward to switching teams. However, Adrian cites, “I don’t get a sense its [Bronny’s NBA entry] playing much of any role in LeBron James’ decision on next season.”

While he backs up the notion of James continuing to light up the Crypto.com arena, Woj asserts that things can depend on the structure of the extension/new contract that the Lakers put on the table for LBJ.

However, looking back at LeBron James’ final post-game interview from the 2023-24 season, the Lakers will definitely have to much more. Bron does not feel his current roster is worth running-back with, and definitely would want to see major shakeups within the lineup before he suits up for Team USA on July 6.

Fans can expect major headlines coming during June 25-July 3 stretch, which will feature the 2024 drafts, and free agency signings.
