Despite it being not so much a “praiseworthy” night for Luka Doncic, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the San Antonio Spurs , 113-107. Luka scored 18 points, 16 assists, and 10 rebounds last night, getting a win for his team. Doncic shot 6-27 from the field and 2-11 from beyond the arc but still somehow managed to get with his eighth triple-double in 10 games. But at the same time, it was the sixth time in his career so far that he’s shot way worse than 25%, while he’s playing regular minutes.

“We got a win, man,” Doncic said. “That’s all that matters.” While Luka might be okay with getting a win, however mediocre it might be, it still was a night where he did not perform well. But a few hours ago, Luka Magic played his magic and shared a story on his Instagram handle. In his story, we can see Luka on the courtside having fun with others from his team, and then one of them throws the ball his way. This is when the magic happens. He swiftly kicks the basketball, yes kicks! He kicked from his right foot, and suddenly the ball went flying into the hoop. Doncic captions the story, “Should’ve used my foot”, with a few laughing emojis. It most likely is a play on his sub-par performance from last night.

This makes fans question if not a basketball player, could Luka be a footballer? Well, he did try once!

Luka Doncic and his love affair with Real Madrid

Luka and his love for football, especially Real Madrid, is not something new. He’s been an avid fan for years now. The video he shared on Instagram stories wasn’t his first attempt to display his love for the sport. Rather, there’s been a past incident as well. Last year, Doncic readily gave a hilarious yet amazing “audition” to Real Madrid. Well, not quite literally, but during the team’s pregame warm-up practice against the Grizzlies, he displayed fantastic header skills, swishing an 18-footer around the court. For this bewildering shot, he got a thunderous roar of applause from his teammates. To be honest, shooting an 18-footer from your hands is challenging enough, but doing this with your head takes a player’s game to the next level!

The video of this shot was posted on X (formerly Twitter), with a funny caption stating how Doncic is probably auditioning for Real Madrid football club.

In fact, in 2019 as well, when the Mavericks lost 111-99 against the Pacers, Luka attempted to kick the ball skyward as the ball bounced towards him. At the time, the game’s announcer even jokingly called him “Luka Modric”, citing Real Madrid’s star footballer. Even though it cost him a technical foul, second in that game, Doncic was all smiles in the post-game interviews. He said he did not know the rules, and said he probably would want to work on his soccer skills.
