After displaying an urge to help Kyrie Irving on the offensive end after the previous game, Luka Doncic put up one of the most dazzling games of the series. The Slovenian star went 14-26 from the field, scoring 35 points and 10 rebounds, to post a 30-point blowout win at Crypto.com Arena. While his leaning to aid Kye was enough to expect fireworks, Luka faced a sprained right knee and a cold prior to the game. However, this was no regular season game, as the 25-year-old decided to spearhead his crew.

Luka agreed to capitalize on the adrenaline behind his performance during the post-game interview. However, when asked about the consequences of the sickness he faced in the game, Luka claimed that said his biggest difficulty throughout the night was breathing. Since his nose was blocked due to the stubborn cold, he spent majority of his night breathing through his mouth and blowing his nose whenever an opportunity provided him to step on the sidelines. “It’s tough, can’t breathe through the nose. So, I have to blow my nose every time,” he said with a smile on his face.

Now, Luka puts the sluggishness from his sickness away, his knee injury still persists. Even on Wednesday, Doncic, moments after calling it a night, wrapped a large bag of ice around his sprained knee with nearly 5:30 left in regulation.

With that, Luka Doncic’s availability for the coming game in Dallas Mavericks remains unconfirmed. The Mavs now have a chance to close out the series at home. Moreover, they can also redeem their 2021 first round loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, which saw Dallas lose Game 6 and 7.

I’m just trying not to think of the injury or the cold,” Luka said before the game while hoping to set the tone early in the game. With that, the stage was set for Luka to put on his rendition of Michael Jordan’s flu-game. And, in essence, he lived upto the expectations. Luka’s 35 points were a game high, leading superstars from both the teams. In fact, the closest production to Luka came from Paul George, who posted 15 points – a 20 point gap.

However, like much of the series, Doncic had plenty of help around him. While Doncic took care of the scoring front, his teammates suffocated the Clippers to shoot just 38% from the floor. As a result, they posted their worst 3-point shooting of the series, 25% through 9-35 shooting. Mavs landlocking defense comes just days after the Clippers made 18 of 29 attempts in a Game 4 win, shedding light on LA team’s instability that still lingers in the post-season.
