Two teams with the worst records in the West met. One bettered themselves. The Dallas Mavericks hosted the New Orleans Pelicans who just notched their first win of the season (against Charlotte). In the end it was the Pelicans who showed growth. They beat the Mavs 99-101 in a very a close contest. They’ve now improved to 2-26 while the Mavs fall to 2-6. It was bad enough that it ruined Cooper Flagg’s career night and his mood.

Mavericks vs Pelicans: game summary and key moments
The Mavericks were down with the usual suspects – Kyrie Iriving, Anthony Davis, Dante Exum, and Dereck Lively. The Pelicans are missing Zion Williamson to a hamstring injury. They still had Cooper Flagg, D’Angelo Russell, and PJ Washington. Which made losing to arguably the worst team cut deeper.

Cooper Flagg had an impressive 20 points. However, the shaky record is seemingly getting to him. The mood overall in the Dallas locker room is low but fans claim they saw the young guard leave the American Airlines Center looking down and didn’t sign any autographs.
Klay’s shooting woes continue as he made 11 points tonight. Daniel Gafford and PJ Washington had 15 points each but D’Angelo Russell was disappointing too with only 9 points.

On the flipside, New Orleans fans are seeing the team chemistry improve without Zion Williamson and Jordan Poole. Sadiq Bey had 22 points and Jose Alvarado and Jeremiah Fears had 13 points each.
The Pelicans will have a tougher match on their hands when they meet the Spurs on Saturday. The Mavs will try to make a bid for the NBA Cup in a group stage game against the Grizzlies on Friday.
